    California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is a preeminent center of intellectual and cultural activity in the Inland Empire region of Southern California.     JOB SUMMARY

    The Mathematics Department at California State University, San Bernardino is seeking part-time lecturer applications from a diverse group of qualified individuals. The department is seeking experienced, well-organized, and student-centered individuals to teach Quantitative Reasoning, Mathematics for Educators or selected 2000-level courses at the San Bernardino Campus. Quantitative Reasoning instructors may also teach lab sections designed to support student success in college level mathematics. Candidates must have at least a Master’s degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or equivalent. Preference will be given to candidates who have prior teaching experience at the college or university level and who can furnish evidence of strong teaching. Candidates should demonstrate their ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first-generation college students. Preference will be given to those with experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment. Preference will also be given to those with relevant work experience and those who bring professional capabilities. To be considered to teach courses in the Mathematics for Educators sequence, preparation/experience in K-12 mathematics education and thorough familiarity with the California Common Core State Standards is strongly preferred.

    This is a pool of part-time lecturers for the department to draw on as necessary and all appointments are temporary. Staffing decisions are made on a rolling basis typically beginning a few months prior to the start of an academic term right up to the beginning of the academic term. We recommend submitting your application at least 4 months before the beginning of an academic term to be considered for available positions.

    TYPICAL ACTIVITIES

    The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in Mathematics.

    Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Earned Master’s degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or the equivalent. We strongly encourage members of underrepresented groups to apply.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Degree in hand by time of appointment. (Master's in Mathematics, Mathematics Education or the equivalent)
    • To be considered to teach Mathematics courses above the 1000 level (other than Mathematics for Educators), some PhD-level coursework is required.


    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
      • Experience as an instructor of record in college level mathematics.
      • To teach courses at the 2000 level or above (other than Mathematics for Educators), a PhD in Mathematics, Mathematics Education or the equivalent is strongly preferred.
      • Experience facilitating diverse student groups using active learning pedagogical practices is preferred and should be described in the application.
      • To be considered to teach courses in the Mathematics for Educators sequence, the following are strongly preferred. Your interest in these courses and relevant experience/preparation should be described in the application.
        • Preparation and/or experience in K-12 mathematics education
        • Thorough familiarity with the California Common Core State Standards, including the Standards for Mathematical Practice

    ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

    The Department of Mathematics is one of nine departments within the College of Natural Sciences . We offer four bachelor's degrees , a Master's degree , a minor in mathematics and a minor in statistics , as well as a Certificate in Introductory Actuarial Mathematics and a Subject Matter Authorization . Most of our students are the first in their families to go to college. More than half of our students are members of minority groups, and one quarter are from groups traditionally underrepresented in the sciences. CSUSB is nationally recognized as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and we are one of the top mathematics departments in graduating Hispanic students .
