Duties Description
Under the direction of the Regional Director Parks & Recreation 1, the selected candidate will perform a range of tasks associated with the Agency Public Affairs Office and the Regional Director. Duties include, but are not limited to:
A. Coordinate Agency Communications Programs in the Region:
* Assisting the Agency Public Affairs Office and the Regional Director in responding to telephone, email, and written inquiries from media outlets, constituent groups, and the public. Inquiries may include routine requests for information, complaints, and topics related to complex or controversial matters.
* Coordinate regional roll-out of agency branding and communications programs (ex. State Parks Centennial, Commissioner’s weekly newsletter content, Region’s Access for All campaign)
* Coordinate production, supplies, and distribution of print publications. Ex. Rack Cards, Regional Annual Report
B. Coordinate press, social media, and presentations. Produced outreach materials and events:
* Schedule, plan, and produce press releases and regional media events in close collaboration with the Agency Public Affairs Office.
* Support the marketing and messaging for park/site programming and events
* Assist with regional coordination and promotion of State-wide events (First Day Hikes, I Love My Park Day, Juneteenth, etc., as necessary)
* Coordinate public messaging and outreach of Friends projects, especially those funded by the PTNY partnership or other state funding sources.
* Monitor and manage the Region’s digital content: www.parks.ny.gov:
-NYS Parks Explorer app content and notifications
-Social media accounts and park/site support
-Support the development of a new agency website
* Produces presentations on special projects, including video clips, meeting presentations, and promotional materials for agency and region, including the Spa Park Partners Forum, quarterly Regional Commission meetings, SCOP and executive staff events in the region, and associated initiatives
C. Foster Community Connections and Partnership Development:
* Represents OPRHP at conventions, seminars, exhibits, professional gatherings, and outreach meetings, encouraging increased awareness of OPRHP facilities and programs by a cross-section of constituencies, including minorities and the disabled. Support agency Diversity Equity and Inclusion initiatives. Review existing publications, in-house and external, for potential modifications designed to reach special populations.
* Reviews statistics and professional research on patron use to determine needs, interests, and barriers to park utilization, particularly with relation to under-represented groups, minorities, and the disabled.
D. Occasional travel to do on-site work for the region’s parks and historic sites.
E. Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
No minimum qualifications per Civil Service.
Preferred Qualification: a bachelor’s degree or soon-to-be graduate in Public Affairs, Marketing, Communications, Languages, or related field.
