    The Information Technology team at the City of Irvine is seeking a dynamic and experienced Data Center Systems and Cloud Engineer to be a member of a high-performing team responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and management of data center and cloud infrastructure. This role will be pivotal in the execution of both day-to-day operations and strategic projects, ensuring the stability, scalability, and security of hybrid environments. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cloud technologies, data center systems, and server management, with a focus on optimizing performance, cost-efficiency, and compliance with industry standards. This position requires excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative infrastructure solutions.
    There are two (2) Full-Time vacancies. This recruitment will establish an Eligibility List for the Information Technology Specialist I position, which will expire on 4/7/2026.

    Your Impact
    • Design, deploy, and maintain data center and cloud infrastructure solutions.
    • Architect scalable and resilient systems that meet business and performance requirements.
    • Evaluate new technologies and make recommendations for infrastructure improvements.
    • Manage and optimize cloud services across multiple platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
    • Implement cloud governance and cost management strategies.
    • Ensure compliance with security policies and regulatory requirements in cloud environments.
    • Develop and implement automation scripts and workflows using tools like Saltstack, Terraform, or CloudFormation.
    • Orchestrate provisioning, configuration management, and deployment of infrastructure components.
    • Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity planning.
    • Identify performance bottlenecks and optimize infrastructure for efficiency.
    • Implement monitoring solutions and alerting mechanisms for proactive issue resolution.
    • Implement and enforce security best practices in data center and cloud environments.
    • Design and implement disaster recovery plans and procedures and test and validate disaster recovery mechanisms regularly to ensure high availability and business continuity of critical systems and applications.
    • Implement change management processes for infrastructure modifications.
    • Maintain up-to-date documentation of configurations, procedures, and operational processes.
    • Ensure smooth transition of changes through testing, validation, and communication.
    • Plan, implement, and manage Office 365 deployments, ensuring smooth migration and integration with existing systems.
    • Configure and customize Office 365 services such as Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Teams, and Microsoft 365 Apps according to business requirements.
    • Manage Azure Active Directory (AAD) including user identities, groups, and permissions.
    • Implement and configure Single Sign-On (SSO), Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), and identity synchronization between on-premises Active Directory and Azure AD (Azure AD Connect).
    • Participate in on-call rotation and respond to critical incidents promptly.

    Best Fit
    • Strong understanding of data center architecture, including servers, storage systems, networking equipment (routers, switches, load balancers), and cooling/power systems.
    • Knowledge of data center design principles, including redundancy, scalability, and efficiency.
    • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and their core services (compute, storage, networking, databases).
    • Advanced understanding of cloud architecture concepts, including virtualization, containers, and hybrid/multi-cloud environments.
    • Experience with virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, KVM).
    • Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker) and container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes).
    • Knowledge of security measures for data center and cloud environments.
    • Experience with monitoring tools and methodologies for data center and cloud environments.
    • Advanced skills in analyzing performance metrics and optimizing infrastructure for efficiency.
    • Strong understanding of data backup strategies and experience with disaster recovery planning.
    • Experience with backup solutions, both on-premises and cloud-based.
    • Experience in configuring, managing, and troubleshooting Microsoft Office 365 services such as Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Teams, and Microsoft 365 Apps.
    • Understanding of O365 licensing, subscription models, and service integrations.
    • Advanced knowledge of identity management concepts and experience with Azure Active Directory (AAD, Entra) for user and group management, Single Sign-On (SSO), and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).
    • Advanced Understanding of directory synchronization (Azure AD Connect) between on-premises Active Directory and Azure AD.
    • Expertise in configuring and managing email services in Office 365 (Exchange Online), including mail flow, security and compliance, and email archiving.
    • Advanced knowledge of collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online for document management and collaboration.
    • Experience with deployment methodologies for Office 365 services and applications.
    • Advanced proficiency with PowerShell scripting for Office 365 administration and automation tasks.
    Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or closely related field
    • Four (4) years of general information technology experience performing technical and/or analytical tasks for computer systems or services in any of the functional areas or emerging information technology fields or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
