    Position Description
    Directs and coordinates infection control program in the School of Medicine clinics. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

    Major/Essential Functions
    • Communicate with the Director of Nursing regarding any issues or concerns that develop.
    • Communicates patient data using EMR to support decision-making to improve patient care.
    • Participates in emergency preparedness drills in the department.
    • Reports data, identifies and reports alterations with infection control to assist in the identification of problems and formulation of goals/outcomes and patients in collaboration with clinic departments and as a part of the interdisciplinary health care team.
    • Helps organize the requirements needed to operate necessary equipment and instruments for examinations, treatments and procedures for employee and patient safety.
    • Researches, trains, and evaluates clinical department nurse managers & clinical personnel on the appropriate processes of sterilization and disinfection of medical equipment.
    • Evaluate SOM outpatient clinical sites twice annually for Infection Prevention & Control Surveillance Rounding. Evaluate Point of Care practices monthly for SOM Lubbock outpatient clinics. Writes reports and sends them to nurse manager and administrator for corrective actions on each out-of-compliance standard.
    • Coordinates aspects of Infection Prevention and Control/ Employee Health Program/Office of TTPL. Works collaboratively with the managing director of Institutional Health.
    • Acts as an agent of change to identify opportunities to improve clinical and operational processes, resolve problems and evaluate the effectiveness of change.
    • Works collaboratively with the Director of Nursing to prepare the organization for Joint Commission accreditation site survey and coordinate SOM efforts to achieve continuous survey readiness.
    • Facilitates and/or attends SOM IFC Committee to present information, gather information, educate and facilitate policy and process development.


    Required Qualifications
    Education: Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program. License/Certification: Current RN license in the State of Texas or have the ability to transfer your license to Texas. Experience: At least one year of infection control experience and/or training.
