    Position Overview

    Austin Water is a large and complex department of the City of Austin, with over 1,300 employees, and multiple facilities across a wide geographical area. Austin Water provides drinking water and wastewater services to over one million customers in the Austin area and manages over 40,000 acres of preserve land for drinking water quality and endangered species habitat. Austin Water’s Director’s Office is seeking a program coordinator to assist in the coordination of Austin Water’s records and information management program

    • Your skill level in some of the competency areas for this job - specifically MS Outlook - will be assessed through skills testing with a required minimum passing score of 70%.

    • Verification of your education (which may include high school graduation or GED , undergraduate and/or graduate degrees) is required. You must provide proof of education from an accredited organization or institution. You must also provide proof of your professional licenses or certifications.
    • If you are in the military or are a military veteran, you will need to provide a copy of the Member 4 page of your DD-214 prior to confirming a start date.
    • A criminal background investigation is required.


    Critical Employee:
    • This position has been designation as critical for the City of Austin. Critical positions are necessary and vital and support activities that impact City or department operations. Work can be done while at a designated work site or while working at an alternate work location. Critical employees may be reassigned to another area to provide essential services to support any extraordinary situations or emergency conditions.


    Secondary Employment:
    • All Austin Water employees are prohibited from accepting or engaging in any secondary employment that might conflict or interfere with an employee’s duty and responsibility to the Department.
    • AW must review all secondary employment.

    Travel:

    If you are selected for this position and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program , you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

    Effective October 1, 2014, all Austin Water worksite locations are tobacco-free. Use of tobacco products and/or e-cigarettes is not permitted on any AW worksite - including construction sites, parking lot, garage or in any personal vehicle located on the premises.

    Pay Range
    $24.89 - $29.18 per hour

    • Experience in records and information management for a large and complex organization and knowledge of applicable laws, policies, and procedures.
    • Excellent communication skills, including both written and oral, with the ability to effectively communicate across a wide range of employees, teams, managers, and directors.
    • Strong organizational skills and experience in planning, organizing, and managing the delivery of administrative services to support organizational goals.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Ability to travel to other City of Austin work locations, as needed.


    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.


    Develop and implement a variety of programs, projects and activities. Coordinate with existing organizations to address community economic or social service needs. Conduct needs assessments and meets with community residents, leaders and community groups to identify needs and available resources. Collaborate with other organizations to plan and develop programs and activities or improve coordination of existing services. Research funding sources, develop short and long range plans, and compile informational reports. Serve as City representative before community groups, businesses and/or the media. Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers. Assists in the development and monitoring of project and/or program budgets Assists in the development of short/long range plans Assists in the development and implementation of operating policies and Procedures Ensures compliance with city and other regulatory agency requirements and policies

    City Government

    The City of Austin is a progressive, full-service municipal organization operating under the Council-Manager form of government. Austin has a 10-1 council system with an at-large Mayor and Council Members that represent ten districts.
