    ABOUT THE POSITION

    The Clark County Information Technology Department is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Systems Operator I/II position. This is an entry-level position in the computer systems operations series, responsible for the operations of multiple large-scale systems in a centralized data center. As a Systems Operator, you will monitor and coordinate response to system alerts and provide support to end users calling for assistance. The ideal candidate will have an extensive history of customer service experience working both independently and on a team.

    Systems Operator I : $22.34 - $34.59 Hourly
    Systems Operator I I: $24.07 - $37.36 Hourly

    The Systems Operator I is a training underfill position, upon successful completion of the training program the successful candidate will be non-competitively promoted to Systems Operator II .

    This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Education and Experience:

    Systems Operator I - Equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by certificate of completion from a technical training program in computer or digital signage operations OR two (2) years of full-time experience in the operation of large-scale computer or digital signage systems. Equivalent combination of closely related education and experience may be considered.

    Systems Operator II - In addition to the above, one (1) year of full-time experience in operating large scale computer or digital signage equipment.

    Working Conditions: Work scheduled off-hours shifts. May be called back to work in emergency situations.

    Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

    Citizenship: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Please note, Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorships or transfers for any employment positions.

    Medical Examination (Department of Aviation positions): Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician. Cannot be colorblind.

    Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    • Operates and controls multiple heterogeneous computer systems for batch or on-line processing; monitors and maintains system status.
    • Loads tape files, prepares equipment with forms in accordance with operating instructions.
    • Operates and monitors master system console; reviews operators' logs to determine system and equipment status, jobs to be finished on subsequent shifts, maintenance and repair services due, etc.; reviews job schedule; processes and audits CICS transactions and files.
    • Diagnoses, troubleshoots, reports and resolves interruptions or problems in processing, software or hardware; fixes minor problems with Job Control Language; contacts supervisor or calls for service as appropriate.
    • Monitors and maintains a large, integrated heterogeneous communications network; provides support to network end-users; troubleshoots network problems.
    • Coordinates scheduled preventive maintenance and unscheduled maintenance; interfaces with software, equipment, and communications vendors.
    • Replaces ink cartridges or ribbons on printers, cleans typeface, loads paper and special forms and adjusts printers, cleans tape drives and performs related minor maintenance.
    • Maintains tape library; logs tapes into library, prepares tape labels and maintains records of tape usage.
    • Sets up and operates communications and/or networking equipment.
    • Verifies that inputs and outputs are complete before releasing from the computer area.
    • Monitors the computer room equipment and environment, as well as equipment at remote locations, and follows procedures for required or corrective action.
    • Monitors on-line systems and responds to inquiries from on-line computer customers; may serve as a help desk specialist, depending upon hours of assignment.
    • Operates decollating, bursting, printing and related support equipment; maintains stocks of papers and forms and distributes output as required.
    • Provides technical advice or instructs others in work procedures.
    • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
    • Maintains logs and records related to work performed.
    • Uses standard office equipment in the course of the work.

    Department of Aviation Positions:

    • Installs and operates digital signage.
    • Works with video servers, PCs, wiring and other video hardware that typically transmits data to the signage.
    • Responds to work orders identifying failed or failing digital signage.
    • Troubleshoots failures to determine whether the sign itself is faulty or there is some other cause such as power loss, data link or network connection, or PC failure. Initiates work orders appropriately and follows up to ensure signage issues are corrected.
    • Replaces failed signage as needed.
    • Processes failed signage for repair; coordinates and interfaces with signage vendors.
    • Walks public areas of all airport terminals and evaluates signage performance; reads schematics and performs preventative maintenance.
    • Orders spare signage units and replacements as necessary; ensures a small inventory is on hand for emergency replacements.
    • Replaces fans and filters.
    • Operates specialized equipment such as scissor lifts, articulating bucket lifts, genie lifts, and cranes to access and remove/replace signage.
    • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
    • Maintains logs and records related to work performed. Uses standard office equipment in the course of the work.


    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Mobility to work in a typical office setting or a controlled computer room and use standard office equipment, strength to lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds, stamina to remain seated and maintain concentration for an extended period of time, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Accommodation may be made for some of these physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodation.

    Department of Aviation Positions:

    Mobility to work in a typical office setting, controlled computer room, or public facility and use standard office equipment, strength to lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds, stamina to remain seated and maintain concentration for an extended period of time, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Agility to climb, squat, reach, and balance at various heights to install and maintain various sized equipment.
