    Plans/organized/schedules/assigns work to employees, offender mechanics, and/or helpers; inspects work in process and upon completion; makes decisions regarding procedures to be followed to resolve specific repair problems

    Supervises and instructs employees, offender mechanics, and/or helpers in the repair and/or reconditioning of automobiles/light and heavy trucks/tractors/related equipment; supervises and/or maintains a perpetual inventory of stock/tools/equipment

    Prepares and maintains garage records and reports; approves requests for parts and materials; supervises and/or schedules the maintenance/repair of vehicles to ensure jobs are handled in the most efficient manner with equipment available

    Exercises independent judgment within established guidelines for the efficient and economical operation of the garage; receives general administrative direction through reports and observation of equipment operating condition; performs other related work as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Two or more years of experience as an automotive mechanic involving skilled work such as overhauling engines, repair of manual transmissions, electrical/hydraulic system repair, and related work, including one year in a supervisory capacity; and completion of a formal three-year apprenticeship in the automotive mechanic trade OR

    Two or more years of experience as an automotive mechanic involving skilled work such as overhauling engines, repair of manual transmissions, electrical/hydraulic system repair, and related work, including one year in a supervisory capacity; and completion of four years of on-the-job training in the automotive mechanic trade

    (Training from an accredited vocational/technical school in motor vehicle mechanics will substitute on a year-for-year basis for a maximum of two years of the on-the-job training at the rate of 30 earned credit hours, or 480 clock hours for one year)

    All requested documents MUST be received by the closing date listed.

    Some positions are eligible for a shift differential of $173.34 semi-monthly, which is provided to employees with shifts that begin on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am, and who work at a 24/7 worksite (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center), or whose work requires regular visits to these locations. If selected for interview, eligibility may be discussed at that time with the hiring manager.

    The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years!
