Summary ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: The Information Technology Department supports the organization’s technology needs and provides leadership for future solutions. Deschutes County IT manages systems and infrastructure, and provides stable, secure, and reliable technical support services to County staff and clients. The department includes 22 employees and partners with other technical staff throughout the County. The department is dedicated to enhancing security, efficiency, and productivity and provides everything from phone support to application integration.

ABOUT THE JOB: This position provides complex, diverse, and programmatic administrative support within Deschutes County IT. Working under basic supervision, you will independently manage a variety of tasks such as data management, administrative functions, software licensing, purchasing, accounting, and special projects — many of which may involve confidential information. The role requires strong organizational skills, communication, attention to detail, and the ability to resolve technical and operational issues using sound judgment and a solid understanding of policies and procedures. Ideal candidates will be proactive, adaptable, and skilled in software licenses, data management, and customer service, with the ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
This position is located in Deschutes County and may be eligible for remote work as allowed by policy and approved by the supervisor/County Administrator.
Key Responsibilities: - Independently manage complex administrative functions.
- Oversee diverse and specialized administrative tasks such as software licensing, data management, legal documents, scheduling, records maintenance, purchasing, accounting, and contract processing, ensuring compliance with County policies and procedures.
- Research, analyze, and resolve operational issues for the IT Department.
- Conduct research, compile reports, and resolve technical or customer service issues by applying judgement, experience, and understanding of departmental operations.
- Support special projects and confidential assignments by coordinating and completing those projects which requires the handling of sensitive and confidential information; while maintaining effective communication and ensuring accurate documentation.
What You Will Bring: Knowledge of or experience with:
- Administrative processes regarding hands-on experience in managing accounting, purchasing, payroll, and record-keeping functions.
- Intermediate proficiency in software and data management.
- Skilled in using business and personal software and databases to manage and analyze data efficiently.
- Understanding software licensing with knowledge of managing software licenses, including tracking, compliance, renewals, and vendor coordination.
Skill in:
- Analytical and problem-solving skills - ability to evaluate data, identify issues, and make informed decisions independently with established guidelines.
- Effective communication and writing - proficient in drafting professional reports and correspondence and communicating clearly with internal and external stakeholders.
- Time management and prioritization - capable of managing multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines with minimal supervision while adapting to shifting priorities.

Minimum Qualifications- Associate’s degree in Business or Public Administration;
- AND two (2) years of public sector administrative and technical support experience;
- OR any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge to perform the essential functions of the job.
Preferred Qualifications :- Experience in public or government environments.
- Advanced knowledge of accounting or contract management.
- Certificate in administrative or technical support areas.
