    Compensation and Benefits

    Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $4,608 - $4,838 per month

    Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,608 - $7,998 per month

    This is a full-time (equivalent to 40 hours per week), probationary, non-exempt position.

    The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year.     Job Summary

    Under general supervision by the Chair of Physics, the Instructional Support Technician II (IST II) is expected to provide comprehensive support services to the Department of Physics, which make extensive use of materials, supplies and equipment in both undergraduate and graduate laboratories and instructional courses.

    The primary purpose of this position is to implement a full range of assignments that support the Departments of Physics. Projects require an increased depth of knowledge of the disciplines, an understanding of laboratory techniques and methods, suitability of materials for related instructional needs and the ability to operate and perform routine maintenance of scientific equipment.

    Key Qualifications
    • Knowledge of:
      • The principles of performing support services in a laboratory setting in to Physics.
      • The principles, methods, and techniques required of a university or comparable laboratory environment in Physics.
      • The materials, supplies and curriculum used in a university or comparable laboratory environment in Physics.
      • Safety practices, procedures, rules and precautions associated with equipment and working conditions.
      • Computer office systems and ability to use a broad range of technology, systems, and software packages (Microsoft Office Suite, Google).
    • Skill/Ability to:
      • Plan, organize, and schedule field trips, class, and outreach activities related to Physics.
      • Operate technical equipment related to Physics.
      • Maintain department inventory and safety records.
      • Adjust and perform simple maintenance of technical and scientific equipment.
      • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and prepare detailed written information.
      • Interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

    Education and Experience
    • Equivalent to two years of experience providing instructional support services for a related unit or discipline, or in producing materials or supplies or repairing equipment in a discipline related to Physics; or
    • Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to Physics may be substituted for one year of the required experience; or
    • Equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to Physics may be substituted for the two years of required experience
      • Preferred Qualifications:
        • Bachelor’s degree in physics or related field of science.
        • Experience with arranging field trips for large groups.
        • Experience providing instructional support services in the discipline of Physics.
        • Experience providing technical support for research equipment and instruments in the discipline of Physics.
          • Ability to:
            • Design educational displays.
            • Learn the operation of departmental equipment.
            • Learn to conduct basic maintenance and repairs.
