    City Manager

    City of Santa Monica, California

    Annual Salary: $410,604

    The City of Santa Monica is seeking a bold, innovative and transformational City Manager to lead with inspiration, equity and collaboration. In partnership with an engaged and community service-focused City Council, this dynamic leader will advance the Council’s vision for economic opportunity, housing stability, and neighborhood safety, ensuring exceptional public services, balanced growth, and an outstanding quality of life for all residents. With an approximate FY 2025 budget of $765 million, the City Manager will oversee an executive team, including an Assistant City Manager, a Deputy City Manager, and eleven department directors. This leader will drive fiscal stability, modernize land use policies, enhance public infrastructure, ensure safe and livable housing for all, and foster collaborative partnerships to strengthen Santa Monica’s economic resilience.

    The ideal candidate is a transformational leader with expertise in large, politically complex organizations coupled with exceptional fiscal, economic development, and community engagement acumen. They will prioritize inclusive economic growth while leveraging strategic partnerships with a diversity of stakeholders to make a lasting impact while holding the organization accountable through rigorous use of performance metrics.

In 2016, the Metro Expo Line opened connecting Santa Monica to Downtown Los Angeles in under an hour.

    The City of Santa Monica is a national leader in environmental, economic and social sustainability. The City is working toward aggressive climate action goals including: water self-sufficiency by 2020, zero waste by 2030, and carbon neutrality by 2050.

    The highly-rated Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District serves both Santa Monica and Malibu residents. Santa Monica College (SMC), one of the state's top two-year community colleges, serves over 30,000 full-time and part-time students on several campuses and offers more than 90 fields of study.
