    DESCRIPTION

    The Long Beach Utilities Department has an immediate need to fill three (3) vacancies for Storekeeper I - Non-Career.

    Non-Career employees are allowed to work a maximum of 1,600 hours over a 12-month p eriod. This position wi ll be scheduled for 40 hours per week with work hours of 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM, Monda y - Friday.

    Non-Career employees are considered part-time, temporary, at-will employees who are not eligible for paid leave such as vacation, personal leave, or holidays. Non-Caree r employees subject to Assembly Bill 1522 will earn one (1) hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked, including any overtime hours, up to a maximum accrual of 48 hours.

    Selected ca ndidates who are not currently employed with the City of Long Beach will be offered health insurance based on the number of hours scheduled per week. U nder the Affordable Care Act, existing Non-Career City of Long Beach employees will be eligible for health insurance as determined by the 12-month look back review period of the employee's working hours. This review is done annually in November for coverage to become effective January 1st the following year. Eligibility is reviewed annually and is not guaranteed.

    Non-Career employees who are not eligible for enrollment into the CalPERS retirement plan will be enrolled in the City of Long Beach Alternate Retirement System (ARS), which is a defined benefit plan administered by Public Agency Retirement Services (PARS). Eligible employees enrolled into PARS contribute 3.0% of their compensation to the plan.

    This position may be assigned to the work site at 1800 E Wardlow Road or 2400 E Spring Street, both in Long Beach.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    Under supervision, performs the following duties:
    • Participates in the ordering, stocking, issuing, and recording of materials, supplies and equipment;
    • Initiates purchase requisitions and purchase orders within the City's computerized purchasing and inventory systems, and may purchase items directly from vendors or manufacturers;
    • Searches for providers of materials and services and conducts informal bids to determine appropriate vendor;
    • Determines procedures and oversees physical maintenance of storage areas;
    • Assumes responsibility for orderliness, cleanliness, and conformance with storage and accounting procedures;
    • Determines proper accountability and quality of goods received for conformity to purchase orders and specifications;
    • Prepares inventories and other detailed reports;
    • May operate forklift and other warehouse equipment for maneuvering and storage of heavy objects;
    • Communicates directly with vendors to rectify discrepancies in shipments and invoices;
    • Processes written requests;
    • May obtain and disseminate safety procedures for other warehouse employees;
    • May be required to deliver supplies/goods via Department vehicle;
    • Performs other related duties as required.


    REQUIREMENTS TO FILE

    EXPERIENCE:

    Two years paid full-time equivalent experience in receiving, inspecting, storing, issuing, and accounting for a wide variety of supplies and equipment.
    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
    • Proof of a valid Class C motor vehicle operator's license and a current DMV driving record must be submitted to the hiring department for review once selected.
    Successful candidates will also possess all of the following:
    • Skill to prepare and maintain inventories;
    • Skill to perform problem-solving arithmetic computations;
    • Skill to operate an alphanumerical keyboard and/or a calculator;
    • Ability to read and interpret purchase orders and specifications;
    • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects up to 50 lbs. without assistance and over 50 lbs. with assistance;
    • Ability to work with coworkers and members of the public through effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills;
    • Ability to manage different work assignments simultaneously.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to operate warehouse equipment such as pallet jacks, banding crimpers, floor dollies, walk-along cranes and a forklift certification; experience with computerized or automated database management systems used for stock and inventory control and for the purchasing of materials, supplies and equipment; knowledge of barcode utilization; ability to use and maintain extensive automated inventory control filing systems.
