    The Position

    Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.

    Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

    This posting is for the Major Source Permitting Branch in the Bureau of Air Pollution Control located in Reno. This position will be underfilling for a Professional Engineer. The Permitting Branch is tasked with maintaining air quality in the growing State by implementing state and federal regulations and ensuring air emissions are not in violation of the Nevada Ambient Air Quality Standards. The duties of permitting include reviewing Title V permit applications, communicating with facilities to get additional information, calculating potential-to-emit emissions for air pollutants, conducting Prevention of Significant Deterioration applicability determinations, reviewing state and federal regulations, drafting Title V air quality operating permits, writing technical reviews, and peer reviewing other permit writers' work. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR two years of journey level technical experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Notes Employees in this class who are not registered professional engineers may not represent themselves as such to other persons or entities. Special Requirements A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.     Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
