    About the Position:
    Checks in, re-shelves library materials, runs and searches Request lists, and weeds the collection based on present criteria in all areas of the library to provide the best possible accessibility for customers and staff.

    Please note: Due to this position being part-time, the classification is unclassified, meaning it is at-will and serves at the discretion of the City. These positions have limited benefits.

    Anticipated starting salary for this position may be up to mid-point depending on candidate’s experience and internal equity. The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this position is $19.42/hourly.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education and Experience
    • A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent.
    • Any equivalent combination of education and/or job-related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
    Licensing, Certifications and other Requirements
    • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
    Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on division/department/service assignment.

    Essential Functions

    Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:
    • Sorts and shelves materials in all areas of the library as accurately and quickly as possible.
    • Uses computer system to check-in returned items, create paging list, and search for missing items.
    • Empties book drops; checks in and sorts materials as assigned.
    • Searches library for items requested by customers via service desks or computerized paging list.
    • Regularly neatens tables, carrels, and public seating areas to provide an inviting atmosphere for customers.
    • Assists in Circulation including issuing library cards and staffing drive up window as needed.
    • Assistsother departments in providing customer services as required.


    Work Environment/Physical Demands

    • Lifts arms above shoulder level; bends, reaches above and below waist on a continuous basis.
    • Climbs a short stepladder.
    • Lifts crates of books weighing up to 50 pounds and pushes a fully loaded book cart weighing up to 300 pounds.
    • Bends and stoops to lift books, pushes book drop bin over rough uneven terrain, maneuvers carts and bins through doorways and up ramps.
    • Works evening and weekend hours on a regular basis. Must be able to work a varied schedule.

    • Fingerprinting search of the national FBI Database
    • Criminal Background screening

    PLEASE NOTE: Years of experience are based on a work schedule of 2,080 hours per year for full-time positions and 1,040 hours per year for part-time positions, and while work experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis, depending upon the job classification, education may not be substituted for work experience.
