The PositionThe Contra Costa County Public Works Department is currently recruiting to fill multiple Electronic System Specialists vacancies in the Public Works Facilities Maintenance Division. All interested and qualified individuals are encouraged to apply.
Under direction, Electronic System Specialists service, analyzes client needs, installs, maintains, tests and repairs a wide variety of electronic safety, warning and security equipment; and performs other related work as required. Although Electronic System Specialists are assigned to the Public Works Department, work will be done in all County Buildings including, County Jails, Hospitals, Juvenile Hall, Clinics, Social Services Buildings, Libraries, County Homeless Shelters, Sheriff Sub Stations and Mental Health Wards to list a few.
The Contra Costa County Public Works Department (CCCPWD) is responsible for the maintenance and operation of over 650 miles of roads, 79 miles of streams and channels, and over 150 County buildings. CCCPWD services include parks and recreation, sandbag distribution, flood control, road and facilities maintenance, and storm water management. CCCPWD operates two airports, Buchanan Field Airport in Concord, and Byron Airport in Byron. CCCPWD strives for continuous improvement to deliver cost effective, safe reliable and sustainable projects, programs, and quality services.

Minimum QualificationsLicense Required: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license. Out of state valid motor vehicle operator's license will be accepted during the applicant process.
Education:1) Possession of a high school diploma, G.E.D. equivalency or a high school proficiency certificate.
2) Successful completion of one (1) year, or its equivalent, of technical education with major course work in electronics from an accredited college, university, or trade school specializing in electronics. OR, completion of a low-voltage apprenticeship.
Experience: Two (2) years of full time, or its equivalent, experience in the design, installation, testing, maintenance, and repair of electronic safety and security systems,
Substitution for Education: One (1) additional year of full-time or its equivalent of the required experience, may be substituted for the required education.
Substitution for Experience: An Associate's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Electronic Engineering Technology; OR, a National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Level 2 or higher in Fire Protection, Low Voltage Communication Systems, or Security Systems may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.
Desirable Qualifications: - Possession of a Lenel certification
- Possession of a Bosch certification
- A member of NFPA
- Possession of training or certification in Notifier/Firelite
- Experience working with Panasonic systems
- Possession of a NICET certification
Selection ProcessApplication Filing and Evaluation: Applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire at the time of application, applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.
Online Interview: Candidates who possess the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in an online interview. In the oral interview, candidates must achieve an average passing score of 70% or higher on each of the oral interview competencies, as well as an overall passing score of 70% of higher. The interview will measure candidates' competencies as they relate to the Electronic Systems Specialist classification.
(Weighted 100%) Departmental Hiring Interviews: To be scheduled once the eligible list is established.
The online interview assessment is tentatively scheduled to take place online in late April, 2025.The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.
