    The Position

    Positions in this series supervise professional engineering associates, technical engineering staff, and/or engineering students; direct activities of assigned staff, organize personnel, equipment and materials, and delegate assignments; evaluate the performance of employees according to established policies and work performance standards; ensure accurate and timely completion of work assignments; and provide guidance and training.

    Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.

    The incumbent is responsible for: performing construction survey activities; training, monitoring, and managing assigned crew; evaluating crew member performance on a variety of activities; ensuring successful completion of construction contracts including documentation of work; ensuring adherence to contract plans and specifications; monitoring project certified payrolls; finalizing contract documents at the end of the project for project pick-up; performing various inspections of construction activities; ensuring adherence to material testing requirements; and office administration activities. This position requires the incumbent to work alternate shifts outside of traditional business hours; outdoors in a wide range of temperatures and climates; and away from the normal duty station on temporary duty assignments. NOTE: THIS RECRUITMENT WILL BE USED TO UNDERFILL A SUPERVISOR 3, ASSOCIATE ENGINEER. INCUMBENT MAY PROGRESS TO THE NEXT LEVEL AFTER MEETING THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE, AND WITH APPROVAL OF THE APPOINTING AUTHORITY.

    To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field and two years of professional engineering experience; OR certified as an Engineering Intern and two years of professional engineering experience; OR two years of experience comparable to the Staff I, Associate Engineer or the Supervisor I, Associate Engineer level. Special Notes Employees in this class who are not licensed professional engineers may not represent themselves as such to other persons or entities. Special Requirements Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. This position requires a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.     The presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.

On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
