    Job Summary

    Under the general direction of the Assistant Vice President of Student Success & Engagement, who provides broad guidelines, the Executive Director independently determines schedules, work assignments, planning, staffing, directing, controlling, and managing operations; manages construction and alteration projects, facility and program improvements, and maintains the infrastructures of the HRL facilities and its programs. The Executive Director for Housing, Residential Life leads the Housing Department and Residential Life Program including expanding the housing residence facilities to increase housing residents. This position will provide overall management of the Housing & Residential Program. Incumbent is responsible for building community partnerships and proposing solutions for the development and implementation of a comprehensive program for housing and residential life, including living/learning communities, dining, and resident occupancy levels. This position ensures that proposed solutions are based on collected evidence of need and best practices in the nation. Moreover, this position utilizes leadership and management skills to ensure high employee performance and the maintenance of an inclusive, respectful work environment that impacts enhanced learning and developmental environments for students.

    Furthermore, the incumbent provides services that are equitable, inclusive, and culturally sensitive to enhance the quality of campus life. This position uses a student-centered and equity-minded approach in all communications and service efforts.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Leadership & Management HRL Operations: Work closely with the Director HRL Facility Operations and HRL Leadership Team for building maintenance and renovations to maintain all Housing Facilities and ensure proper staffing.
    • Human Resource and Budget Management- Oversee the recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of staff.
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for housing and residential life, including living/learning communities, dining, and resident occupancy.
    • Customer Relations Management: Frequently and or on a regularly scheduled basis, communicate with building representatives to establish close working relationships to share mutual goals and objectives, to resolve any potential conflicts or problems.


    Knowledge Skills and Abilities

    Skilled in managing all administrative and technical aspects of construction and alteration projects in a housing and residential life environment. Ability to exercise sound judgment and handle confidential matters with tact and diplomacy, and to maintain confidentiality of information as needed or to protect the rights of individuals or the University. Proficient in managing an efficient and effective residential life program. Possesses working knowledge of all phases of repair, construction and alteration work performed by skilled trades and custodial personnel to include knowledge of methods, tools, equipment, and materials of the construction trades and custodial services in general to organize work, evaluate progress, ensure craft and custodial work assignments and meet stated standards.

    Skilled in planning, staffing, monitoring, controlling, and directing projects for quality control and accurate budgeting of various construction projects. Ability to oversee a construction project and provide excellent customer service to the campus community, vendors, and other outside agencies. Proficient in performing customer service in a polite and timely fashion, identifying customer needs and rerouting them to the correct department, accurately relaying customer requests and complaints, and describing and conveying services provided by Housing, Residential Life & Auxiliaries.

    Possesses the ability to read blueprints and has excellent organizational skills to maintain projects, names, dates, and places accurately. Must have a general understanding of building maintenance trades, custodial, and grounds operations. Capable of exercising sound time management skills, controlling projects, and working proactively to mitigate delays, legal confrontations, budget problems, and additional complications that may jeopardize project or HRL goals and objectives.

    Has working knowledge of human resources management principles to coach, train, motivate, evaluate and discipline as needed. Ability to coordinate, organize and demonstrate command of a complex and continuously changing array of information, dates, places and people in a systematic way to optimize efficiency and minimize duplication of effort in the process of completing administrative support projects. Demonstrated experience working in a union workforce environment. Skilled in writing concise, logical, and grammatically correct correspondence and analytical reports.

    Proficient in analyzing information, problems, situations, procedures, etc. to define the problem, identify relevant issues, and generate reasonable and appropriate alternatives. Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, etc.) and Internet applications. Ability to learn and use resident management application (StarRez). Knowledgeable in building and fire codes including Occupational & Health Administration general safety rules, equipment, and clothing and California Administrative Codes include Titles 19, 22, and 24 when overseeing projects. Experience with Title 5 highly preferred. Familiar with ADA requirements. Experienced with cleaning products, equipment and procedures. Skilled in mathematical calculations sufficient to prepare budgets, estimates, reports and projects to monitor project costs. Ability to work under fluctuating workload conditions with frequent interruptions, distractions, and emergencies.

    Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

    Education and Experience

    • Master's degree required or equivalent work experience, Doctorate degree preferred.
    • Minimum of 8 years Housing, student services, or other related university experience strongly preferred.

    Physical Summary

    • Medium work - Job involves lifting heavy-weight objects (20-40 pounds) and/or 20% - 40% of the job involves standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking. May require pushing or pulling objects within the weight limits.

    Compensation

    Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $12,500 - $14,333 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

    CSU MPP Compensation Summary Range: The MPP Comp Summary Range for this position is $11,597 - $17,396 per month.

    Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
