This position which will do business in the central region of the State serving the following counties: Adair, Audrain, Boone, Callaway, Camden, Cole, Cooper, Howard, Macon, Maries, Miller, Moniteau, Morgan, Osage, Pettis, Putnam, Randolph, Schuyler.
Main Purpose/Focus of Postion: This position is responsible for developing and implementing a high-profile initiative to increase public awareness of the value of postsecondary education, the options available, and the importance of applying to postsecondary programs and filing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and to increase FAFSA filing by high school seniors around the state.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with regional high school counselors and other community organizations, including Missouri Job Centers, to promote postsecondary access.
- Promotes department resources and initiatives related to planning and paying for college and successfully entering the workforce, including the Big Goal to have 60% of working-age adults in the state earn a postsecondary certificate or degree by 2030.
- Plan events around the state to increase awareness of the initiative.
- Research and develop incentives for high schools that increase seniors’ FAFSA filing.
- Assists with the organization of special events and conferences, including annual Journey to College Day.
- Identify and communicate with partner organizations and the Missouri College Access Network to align activities across the state.
- Assists in reviewing and updating department publications, web content, resource manuals, PowerPoint presentations, newsletters, and videos.
- Identify frequently asked questions students and parents have about FAFSA completion, verification, financing offers, etc., and coordinate the development of resources to answer those questions.
- Travel to regional high schools and job centers to promote resources, including giving presentations, supporting students and families in FSA ID sign up, and FAFSA filing.
- Conducts presentations and workshops; sets up displays and works college fairs and exhibit booths at various events throughout the state (may be required to lift up to 35 lbs.)
- Promote MDHEWD’s Journey to College, financial literacy, student success services and programs, and workforce development opportunities to high school students and counselors in the dedicated region.
- Due to the nature of outreach events, this position requires a flexible schedule and the ability to work nights and weekends.
- Perform other related work as assigned.
- Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance.
- Beneficial education and work-related experience includes technical or professional experience in education, communications, business or public administration or closely related area.
- Supportive skills include: Experience with completing, or helping others complete the Free Applications for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), excellent oral and written communication, building effective working relationships and organizational skills.
