    Minimum Qualifications
    Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
    • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in in a relevant field of study plus six (6) years of progressively responsible experience of directing, planning and organizing in a large division with at least four (4) years of which must be in a supervisory or management capacity.
    • Experience may substitute for the education up to the maximum of four (4) years.


    Licenses or Certifications:

    Requires a valid “C” Texas driver license. If required, must obtain an appropriate Commercial Driver License.

    The Fleet Division Manager is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational oversight for the City of Austin’s Fleet Division within the Fleet Mobility Services Department. This position ensures the effective management of citywide fleet operations, including vehicle acquisition, maintenance, repair, fueling, and sustainability initiatives. The manager will lead a team of professionals to deliver high-quality, cost-effective, and customer-focused fleet services that support departmental and citywide objectives. The role also involves developing policies, managing budgets, implementing best practices, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards.

    This has been designated as an Essential Employee position. In the event of a City-designated emergency, Essential Employees provide services that impact the public health, safety, utility services, and welfare of members of the Austin community and other employees and ensure the continuity of essential operations. In such an emergency, Essential Employees may be called back in, may be required to modify their schedule, may be assigned to a City-designated work site, or may be retained on site to assist with operations and recovery.

    This position requires a valid Texas Class “C” driver’s license or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

    Pay Range
    $39.49 - $51.34
    Hours
    Monday through Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., hours may vary dependent on operational and customer support needs.

    • Experience managing large-scale fleet operations in a municipal or government environment.
    • Strong background in strategic planning, budget management, and performance metrics for fleet services.
    • Demonstrated expertise in fleet sustainability initiatives, including alternative fuel technologies and vehicle electrification.
    • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations related to fleet operations, safety, and environmental compliance.
    • Professional certifications such as Certified Automotive Fleet Manager ( CAFM ) or equivalent.
    • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills with a proven ability to manage multidisciplinary teams.
    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.



    1. Organizes, directs, and coordinates a division within the Fleet Services Department,.

    2. Coordinates facility, process and project activities within the division, between division and City departments, and with outside consultants, engineers, associations, regulatory agencies, and the general public.

    3. Evaluates division programs for effectiveness and accomplishment of goals

    4. Generates and analyzes data to discern patterns, discrepancies, and opportunities for process improvements.

    5. Estimates, prepares, and monitors division budget.

    6. Develops, reviews, revises and approves policies and procedures for division programs..

    7. Interprets, explains, and ensures compliance with applicable policies, procedures, ordinances and federal/state regulatory requirements.

    8. Facilitates, conducts, attends meetings and represents the division, department and city.

    9. Provides advice and assistance to stakeholders.

    10. Performs contract management duties, i.e. negotiates, approves, and monitors contracts.

    Performs the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling and recommendation for dismissal.

    City Government
