    We are searching for a team member who is:
    • Highly motivated and diligent in leading a crew of workers in performing custodial and related housekeeping duties.


    Essential Job Functions

    Provides immediate supervision, by direct observation and in accordance with jail hospital security regulations, to a crew of inmate workers performing custodial duties in inmate patients' rooms, wards, restrooms, offices, corridors, and stairways in medical services facilities in the Sheriff's Department.

    Supervises and instructs inmate work crew members in the performance of housekeeping-related duties such as moving furniture and equipment to various locations within the medical services areas.

    Instructs new inmate work crew members in the performance of custodial duties such as cleaning restrooms and showers; washing walls, ceilings, and windows; sweeping and mopping stairways, and floors in rooms, wards, offices, and corridors; and dusting furniture and furnishings.

    Assigns and inspects work of inmate work crew in the assigned area; counsels inmate work crew members regarding observance of proper work procedures and standards; arranges for reassignment in cases of continued substandard performance.

    Issues cleaning supplies and tools and reports needed cleaning equipment repairs to supervisor.

    Requirements

    REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY

    Two years' experience in the cleaning of office buildings, institutional wards, or similar facilities.*

    PHYSICAL CLASS

    Physical Class III - Moderate: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION

    *Similar facilities include offices, retail, department stores, markets, hotels, shopping centers, factories, warehouses, hospitals, schools, banks, correctional facilities, etc.

    SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE

    As part of this application process, applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire. The questionnaire contains a pre-investigative questionnaire which will be used as part of the background investigation process to ensure applicants meet the standards set forth by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Applicants who fail the pre-investigative questionnaire will be disqualified and will have to wait three (3) months from the date of the disqualification in order to reapply.

    EXAMINATION CONTENT
    A Training & Experience assessment will evaluate the training and experience you list on your application and supplemental questionnaire. This assessment is worth 100% of your total score and assesses proficiencies gained in the following area:
    • Performing routine custodial work in commercial (offices, retail and department stores, markets, hotels, shopping centers, etc.), industrial (factories, warehouses, etc.), and/or institutional environments (hospitals, schools, banks, correctional facilities, etc.).

    • Supervisory or team lead experience.

    APPLICANTS MUST ACHIEVE A PASSING SCORE OF 70% OR HIGHER TO BE PLACED ON THE ELIGIBLE LIST.

    VETERAN'S CREDIT

    If you served in the military and were honorably discharged, you may qualify for Veteran's Credit. To receive this credit, please include a copy of your DD214 Form issued by the branch of service with your application for review.

    ELIGIBILITY AND VACANCY INFORMATION
    Applicants who passed the assessment are placed on the eligible list in the order of their score group for a period of six (6) months.

    The eligible list from this examination will be used to fill vacancies within the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Custody General & Specialized Divisions.

    SPECIAL INFORMATION

    AS PART OF THE HIRING INTERVIEW PROCESS, CANDIDATES MUST SUCCESSFULLY PASS THE CUSTODY FACILITY SECURITY CLEARANCE, UPON SUCCESSFUL CLEARANCE, A TOUR WILL BE PROVIDED.

    SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES MUST COMPLETE A THOROUGH BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, INCLUDING FINGERPRINT SEARCH. Examples of disqualifying factors include: Any felony convictions; job related misdemeanor convictions; certain serious traffic convictions or patterns of traffic violations (3 moving violations in one year; failure to appear; at fault accidents; suspended license; driving under the influence); poor credit history; poor employment history; substance abuse; anyone on probation.

    ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY IF HIRED

    The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (Department) has a "zero tolerance" policy for its employees for the following:
    • use of narcotics, controlled substances, and/or prescription drugs without a prescription.

    Any employee found in violation of this policy will be subject to discharge.

    AVAILABLE SHIFT Any Shift

    APPOINTEES MUST BE WILLING TO WORK ANY SHIFT, INCLUDING EVENINGS, NIGHTS, WEEKENDS, AND HOLIDAYS.

    WORK CONDITIONS

    The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department operates seven (7) days a week, 24-hours a day, Appointees MUST be willing to work:
    • in a jail facility where you will be working with and supervising the work of inmates.
    • any shift, day or night.
    • weekends and holidays.
    • at any Los Angeles Sheriff's Department facility within Los Angels County.
