    (Job #545786) Student Services Professional II, Asian, Desi, Pacific Islander, Middle Eastern, North African Academic Center Coordinator, Salary Range: $5,083 - $7,228 monthly. Hiring Range: $5,337 monthly. This is a temporary, full-time, benefited, exempt, 12-month pay plan position in The Center for Academic Excellence.     Position Summary:

    The Coordinator of the Asian, Desi, Pacific Islander, Middle Eastern, North African academic (ADPI-MENA) Center-SSP II, is responsible for promoting an inclusive culture of student success while providing inspiration, role modeling, center direction and academic support needed to assist students in achieving their personal, academic and professional goals. This role involves encouraging team autonomy, skilled communication, building and maintaining strong local, academic, and sexual/mental health community connections, and fostering inclusivity.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Lead Work - 40%
    • The Center Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the operation of the ADPI-MENA Center’s academic success strategies, events, and facilitating and developing leadership development activities and assessment. The Coordinator will work closely with and participate in major programs and events with the other cultural centers and the Social Justice Equity and Inclusion Center. The coordinator will submit semester and annual program reviews and conduct assessments for quality improvement. The Coordinator will serve the diverse needs of the university community and will participate on appropriate university committees to foster and institutional climate supportive of the success of the students served by the Center.
    • The Coordinator will respond to students in crisis and need and make appropriate referrals to campus and community resources.
      • Lead support of the ADPI-MENA Resource Center student staff
      • Apply for and manage state, grant funding for the Asian America, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander educational programs.

    Academic Mentoring and Retention Support - 30%
    • Lead in designing, implementing, and evaluating programs, workshops, presentations, academic success strategies , retreats, and sociology-cultural education events for students. The Coordinator will provide academic mentoring and guidance for students participating in the Center, track student progress, and oversee peer mentors and student assistants who manage the center.

    Cultural Learning and Student Development - 20%
    • Provide historical context, continuity and knowledge to support programs that enhance students’ personal, sociology-cultural and professional development and growth. Develop, implement and refine program activities with an emphasis on academics, career, professional development, sense of belonging, time management, effective communication, and holistic wellness. Coordinate and collaborate with academic units and campus community partners to provide a full range of academic programming that promotes the success of students served by the center.
    • The Coordinator participates in local, regional, state, and national organizations on student success and stays current on educational trends, studies and best practices on retention/completion strategies for students served by the center in relation to cultural backgrounds.
    • The Coordinator will communicate to students new opportunities, resources, programs, policies, and procedures at Cal Poly Humboldt. The Coordinator will promote participation in sponsored events and activities designed to enrich and enhance their personal, cultural, and social wellbeing.
    • Promote, educate, and stay current on issues of social and political impact on the ADPI-MENA communities and the intersections between those identities and other marginalized identities, and their impact on student success outcomes.

    Campus resources and Outreach Support - 5%
    • Lead efforts to promote resources and outreach with other units at Cal Poly Humboldt including (but not limited to), the Learning Center, Academic and Career Advising Center, Educational Opportunity Program, and Admissions. Will collaborate with academic partner units on retention strategies and serve as a resource within the community, including other campus offices/departments. The coordinator will develop an ongoing relationship with cultural clubs, campus leaders, student associations, staff, and faculty connected to the communities served.

    Other Duties as Assigned - 5%

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Associated with this Position Include:
    • Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of the coordinator of a campus cultural center.
    • General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management.
    • General knowledge of research and interview techniques.
    • General knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior in relation to leading and guiding students.
    • Ability to interpret and apply program guidelines and regulations.
    • Ability to use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements.
    • Ability to obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews.
    • Ability to reason logically.
    • Ability to collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data.
    • Ability to advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required.
    • Ability to recognize multicultural, multisexed and multi-aged value systems and work accordingly.
    • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts.
    • Ability to rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of Cal Poly Humboldt.
    • Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity addressing issues of concern facing students from diverse backgrounds in higher education.
    • Knowledge of the needs of ADPI-MENA Students.
    • Ability to plan and execute on and off campus events and fundraisers.
    • Ability to foster inclusivity across all student identities.
    • Ability to write and manage grant funds.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    Education:
    Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
    Possession of the above knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • At least 1 year of experience training staff on ADPI-MENA Students issues and resources
    • At least 1 year experience supervising college students
    • Experience with conflict management, trauma-informed practices and diverse communication styles
    • At least one (1) year experience coordinating large and small scale events
    • Six (6) months Experience with grant writing and budget management
    • Ability to actively listen to students and respond to student crisis compassionately.
    • Knowledge and awareness of intersectionality.
    • Ability to manage conflict among student staff.
