Job Summary: Provides quality fitness instruction for the benefit of the participants. The days of work and hours will vary with each class. This position will report to a Recreation Coordinator.
The salary range for this position is:
Instructor II
$15.52- $20.96 per hour,
Instructor III
$17.08- $23.05 per hour,
Instructor IV
$18.78- $25.36 per hour,
All salary ranges based on qualifications and experience.
Position will remain open until filled. This is a part-time, less than 20 hours per week non-benefitted position.
Essential Functions: - Provide safe and effective class instruction to registered participants; provide make up sessions as required.
- Develop and implement lesson plans.
- Participate in required trainings & safety meetings.
- Inspect classroom/program environment and equipment to insure safety.
- Handle emergencies according to established procedures.
- Keep current on the trends and advancements in the area of assigned class activity/training utilizing approved educational sources.
- Complete and maintain accurate administrative & record keeping tasks including but not limited to participant medical assessments, written consent forms, written exercise plans, guest evaluations, descriptions for promotional brochures.
Other Job Functions: - Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Education: Instructor II: High School Graduate or GED required.
Instructor III: High School Graduate or GED required, 2 Year Associate Degree or higher in recreation, education or related field preferred.
Instructor IV: High School Graduate or GED required, Bachelor's Degree in recreation, education or related field preferred.
Experience: Instructor II: 1 year experience teaching or participating in the specific exercise/fitness classes discipline required.
Instructor III: 3 years experience teaching a variety of fitness classes required.
Instructor IV: 4 years teaching and training experience required. Experience conducting workshops and leading in-service training required.
Certifications: - Current CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire date required.
- Silver Sneakers Foundations certifications
- Complete supervisory led training within 45 days of hire required.
- Course work in recreation, education or related field preferred.
Instructor IV: All of the above and current certification from a specialized nationally recognized organization required. Example: Pilates, NIA, and Yoga. Certification must include a practicum and written examination. Nationally recognized primary group exercise certification preferred (e.g ACE or AFAA).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Knowledge of activity required.
- Strong oral communication skills required.
- Work effectively and diplomatically with diverse groups required.
- Strong customer service skills required.
- Handle difficult situations involving participants with patience, good judgment and diplomacy required.
- Build and maintain strong participant enrollments.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions: - Frequent l ight to moderate physical effort that includes frequent standing or walking or maintaining arms and hands in the same position for repetitive tasks. Frequently works with light objects and light hand tools.
- Frequent e xposure to routine office noise and equipment.
- Frequent e xposure to hazards typically found in general office environments where there is rarely to no exposure to injury or accident.
- Occasional minimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects. Walking and/or standing as needed and minimal.
- Occasional exposure to routine office noise and equipment.
Additional Working Demands/Conditions: - Must be able to physically & safely lead and demonstrate the skill and/or activity. Will be required to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends. May require pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, positioning and moving equipment necessary for the activity.
