    The Position

    Institutional Chaplains provide and coordinate ministry in a pluralistic setting to persons in one or more State correctional facilities; arrange for and work with representatives of various faiths who conduct specialized ministries or rites at an institution. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

    This position is located at High Desert State Prison, in Indian Springs, Nevada. The incumbent works with the Associate Warden in scheduling worship services; and with the Chapel clerk to balance the requests for use of the chapel by the various faith groups; distributing the use of time on a fair basis. Recruits and invites religious leaders and lay persons to come into institutions to assist in providing services, programs, counseling and seminars for individuals and groups with specific and varied religious preferences. Visits all inmates who do not have freedom of movement on the yard and provides for their religious needs to the extent consistent with security and medical; or other limitations defined by the housing units.

    To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Master's degree from an accredited college or university in divinity, Hebrew letters, or equivalent training in a recognized faith; two years of experience as a spiritual leader in a recognized faith tradition (such as a minister, priest, rabbi, or imam) in a formal setting (such as in a parish, synagogue, tribe, temple or mosque); and ordination as a spiritual leader with current official endorsement or sponsorship from a locally recognized faith group or national credentials; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in pastoral counseling, theology, religious studies, or closely related academic field which included two upper-level courses in comparative religion, cultural diversity and psychology or sociology; two Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) or equivalent interfaith professional education units; three years of experience as a spiritual leader in a recognized faith tradition (such as a minister, priest, rabbi, or imam) in a formal setting (such as in a parish, synagogue, tribe, temple or mosque); and ordination as a spiritual leader with current official endorsement or sponsorship from a locally recognized religious faith group or national credentials. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.     The presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.

On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
