    Workdays & Hours: Field Operations operates 24/7, and as such, weekend work may be required. This position serves as a first responder during severe weather and emergency situations, which means you may be called in after hours, on nights, weekends, and holidays. You will also participate in an on-call rotation schedule.

    Looking to put your CDL to work in a career that builds your community? Fort Worth Water is hiring Equipment Operators (Dump Truck) to support our Field Operations Division-home to some of the most essential infrastructure work in the city.

    This hands-on role offers more than just driving. You’ll operate heavy equipment across city job sites, help maintain and repair water and wastewater systems, and be part of a team that responds to emergencies and keeps Fort Worth running-rain or shine.

    This Position qualifies for the following incentives which is separate from the base pay:
    • $2,000 Sign-On Incentive: 50% paid on the completion of first pay period, 50% paid after 6 months of employment.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • High School Diploma or GED.
    • A valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) - Class A with an acceptable driving record.
    • Minimum of one (1) year of professional experience operating motorized equipment, including dump trucks with trailers.
    • Ability to successfully pass a test-out assessment on heavy equipment during the interview process.
    • Ability to obtain a TCEQ Water Distribution Class D or Wastewater Collection I license within 12 months of hire (requires passing a written test and criminal background check).
    • Flexibility to work overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed, including participating in an on-call rotation schedule.
    • Ability to pass a physical examination, drug screen, and education and background verification.
    • Must be comfortable working outdoors in extreme weather conditions and lifting up to 100 pounds.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • At least two years of experience in construction, utility repair, fieldwork, or maintenance.
    • Prior experience in utilities work.
    • Previous experience with water or wastewater systems.

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Operate Dump Trucks & Equipment: Safely load, transport, and unload heavy equipment and materials using dump trucks and other motorized equipment.
    • Water & Wastewater Systems: Assist with the construction, repair, maintenance, and inspection of water and wastewater piping systems.
    • Physical Labor: Perform manual labor as needed for the installation, repair, and maintenance of water infrastructure, including digging trenches, laying pipe, and handling materials.
    • Adhere to Safety Standards: Ensure all work is performed in compliance with established safety regulations, procedures, and policies.
    • Field Support: Assist with a variety of field operations, including equipment maintenance, traffic control, and general construction tasks to support the ongoing success of the team.
    • Tools & Equipment Operation: Use a variety of hand tools and motorized equipment for construction, maintenance, and inspection tasks.
    • Material Handling: Efficiently load and unload materials, equipment, and tools on-site.

    Depending on the assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling, and lifting; depending on assignments. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils, and workspace restrictions.

    Physical Demand

    Heavy Work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up-to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.

    Medical Program
