    This position may be filled at one of three levels based on knowledge, skills, and abilities. The entry salary is posted above, an Intermediate starting salary of $44,224.56, and a Senior starting salary of $48,621.60.

    Job Location: Sikeston, MO

    Why you’ll love this position: The design technician provides semi-skilled technical or paraprofessional support in the preparation of plans and documents used in the design of roadway projects. Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision.

    • Serves as a contact for utility companies, municipalities and internal MoDOT staff. Notify utility partners of upcoming projects and help to develop a plan of adjustment for projects, in accordance with current design standards, policies, specifications and practices.
    • Assists with the preparation of special provisions, reimbursable utility agreements and utility plan adjustment review.
    • Works with municipalities, consultants, utility companies and MoDOT staff on matters pertaining to relocation of structures or facilities and estimate costs.
    • Conducts field visits with municipalities, consultants, and utility companies to explain how projects will affect their facilities.
    • Assists in estimating utility relocation cost for projects to aid in budgeting and planning.
    • Assists in the review of outside developer, utility company or municipal projects for impacts to existing utilities or future development by the department.
    • Utilizes computer aided drafting software, and various other computer software programs to perform design and review related activities; may produce project sketches, locate information on aerial and topographic maps, crosscheck plans and specifications, help develop and maintain utility database, and prepare detailed reports and graphs.
