Office of Veterans Affairs (VA) is recruiting for
Veterans Service Officer Trainees, who counsel and advise veterans and their dependents concerning entitlement to benefits under applicable provisions, laws, and regulations; assist applicants in completing documents and obtaining various benefits; screen and review all supporting evidence bearing on entitlement under the law; make home and hospital visits when necessary; and prepare correspondence and reports. Offices are located in San Bernardino , Rancho Cucamonga , and Hesperia . The eligible list will also be used to fill vacancies in the department as they occur throughout the County.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT PROMOTION : VSO Trainees are eligible for promotion to Veterans Service Officer I ( $3,984 - $5,350 /mo.) upon completion of the eighteen (18) month training period and receipt of a satisfactory work performance evaluation or be terminated.
VSO I's (2nd level trainee) are eligible for promotion to Veterans Service Officer II ( $4,510 - $6,201 /mo.) upon completion of the eighteen (18) month training period and receipt of a satisfactory work performance evaluation or be terminated.
Incumbents must also obtain California Department of Veterans Affairs ( CALVET ) accreditation within eighteen (18) months of hire or be terminated.
Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required, and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation.
Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
* Salary increases contingent upon Property Related Revenue and/or statewide Realignment Sales Tax Collections performance.
Minimum Requirements CANDIDATES MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING OPTION REQUIREMENTS: OPTION 1 Must possess fifteen (15) semester (23 quarter) units of completed college coursework in
behavioral/social science or
public/business administration .
(Transcripts MUST be submitted with the application if applicant does not possess a completed Associate degree (or higher), or the application will be disqualified.) OPTION 2
Must possess a completed/awarded Associate degree (or higher).
**NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED** IMPORTANT NOTES: EDUCATION Qualifying degrees or coursework must be completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. Degrees or coursework completed outside the U.S. must be accompanied with an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service showing equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.
