    Job Summary

    Salary :

    Crime Scene Investigator I: $21.41- $27.305

    Crime Scene Investigator II: $22.61- $28.83

    Crime Scene Investigator III: $23.88- $30.45

    Performs responsible technical field and office work for complex crime scene investigations, documenting crime scenes, evidence identification, collection, processing, preservation, and submission; producing detailed reports; testifying in court proceedings; and performing other duties as assigned. Employees assigned to this classification must complete an extensive training program to reach full proficiency in all areas. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Forensics Manager. Performance may be reviewed while in progress and upon completion through direct on-site observation, conferences, and review of reports.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Crime Scene Investigator I: Associate's Degree in Crime Scene Technology, Crime Scene Investigations, Forensic Science, or related field and one (1) year experience in crime scene processing or photography; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Must pass medical and psychological examinations. Must pass thorough background check which includes polygraph. International Association of Identification (IAI) certification as a Level 1 Certified Crime Scene Investigator required within sixteen (16) months of hire.

    Crime Scene Investigator II: Associate's Degree in Crime Scene Technology, Crime Scene Investigations, Forensic Science, or related field, three (3) years experience in crime scene processing or photography, and successful completion of eighty (80) hours of International Association for Identification (IAI) board-approved structured programs and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Must pass proficiency exam, medical and psychological examinations, and thorough background check which includes polygraph. International Association of Identification (IAI) certification as a Level 1 Certified Crime Scene Investigator required within sixteen (16) months of hire

    Crime Scene Investigator III: Associate's Degree in Crime Scene Technology, Crime Scene Investigations, Forensic Science, or related field, five (5) years experience in crime scene processing or photography, and successful completion of ninety-six (96) hours of International Association for Identification (IAI) board-approved structured programs and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Must pass proficiency exam, medical and psychological examinations, and thorough background check which includes polygraph. International Association of Identification (IAI) certification as a Level 1 Certified Crime Scene Investigator required within sixteen (16) months of hire

    If this posting indicates a degree is required, the following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows:
    • Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree;
    • Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree;
    • Six (6) years of direct experience for a master's degree; or
    • Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree.
