The County of Los Angeles Fire Department is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency
Warehouse Manager position vacancies related to the unprecedented disaster.
Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment.
During your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%. Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Warehouse Manager position. DEFINITION : Under general direction has charge of a very large and complex warehousing operation, with responsibility either for maintaining and distributing supplies through a warehouse system which includes several branch warehouses, or for the supervision of a number of auxiliary service functions.
CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS : Positions allocable to this class typically report to a higher level materials manager and are restricted to departments with very large warehousing operations such as Sheriff, Fire, Department of Health Services Administration, LAC/USC Medical Center, and Public Works. Positions allocable to Warehouse Manager typically manage through subordinate warehouse supervisors and are responsible for either supervising the maintenance and distribution of supplies through a warehouse system that contains several branch warehouses or for supervising a number of auxiliary service functions. These positions require incumbents to exercise a knowledge of County procurement and warehousing procedures, the principles of supervision, the proper and safe methods for storing supplies and materials, and the ability to use a personal computer, video display terminal and commonly used inventory control programs to review warehouse stock levels, utilization rates, and other information. These positions are responsible for overseeing the safety of workers performing arduous material handling tasks using manual and powered equipment and ensuring the observance of appropriate safety procedures and practices in the use of such equipment.
Essential Job Functions- Supervises the establishment and readjustment of stock levels for a large variety and number of items, including building and construction supplies, conferring with operating personnel to ascertain future or special project requirements.
- Develops and recommends procedures and standards for the storage, inventory control, distribution and related aspects of materials management operations.
- Monitors warehouse reports, inventory and distribution activity, and recommends corrective action to maintain adequate levels and ensure cost effective and timely distribution of materials and supplies.
- Initiates timely orders to insure adequate supply levels to meet operating needs of department, including branch warehouses and other facilities.
- Supervises the receipt, inspection, storage, and issuance of a heavy volume of materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Determines the allocation of storage space.
- Supervises the processing of items to be salvaged.
- Supervises the taking of supply inventories and the maintenance of records.
- Supervises the acquisition, tagging, physical custody, inventory, and maintenance of property and equipment records.
- Supervises transportation services.
- Supervises the maintenance and repair of small mechanical equipment and tools.
- Supervises the testing of fire hose and the repair and fabrication of canvas items such as tarpaulins.
Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS : TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:Option I: Two years of experience at the level of Warehouse Worker lll*, Materials Management Analyst**, or Procurement Assistant ll***.
-OR- Option II: Three years of warehousing, procurement, or related experience at the level of Warehouse Worker ll**** or Procurement Assistant l*****, two years of which must have included supervision.
LICENSE:A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize and alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

PHYSICAL CLASS : Physical Class III - Moderate: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION : *In County service, Warehouse Worker III is defined as o perating or assisting in the operation of a large warehouse.
** In County service, Materials Management Analyst is defined as performing central procurement, inventory control, supply services, and information control work for a large and complex County department.
*** In County service, Procurement Assistant II is defined as supervising procurement and procurement-clerical positions engaged in procuring supplies, equipment, and services for a County department or independently manages a specialized or complex procurement assignment for a County department.
**** In County service, Warehouse Worker II is defined as operating or assisting in the operation of a store or warehouse.
***** In County service, Procurement Assistant I is defined as performing a full range of journey-level functions in the regular and emergency procurement of supplies, equipment and services for a County department.
