Clinic Operations is recruiting for a
Public Health Dental Director (PHDD) who is responsible for the strategic direction, execution, and daily management of dental services across the Department of Public Health’s Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and mobile dental units. The PHDD, reports to the Health Officer and collaborates closely with the Clinic Operations administrative team. In alignment with the county’s objectives and the Department of Public Health’s mission, the PHDD provides oversight to the dental team, ensuring effective service delivery and optimal patient outcomes. This role includes supervising dental staff, representing staff to departmental and program leadership, and fulfilling clinical responsibilities. The PHDD plays a key role in improving patient care through cross-disciplinary coordination, enhancing operational efficiency, and driving continuous service improvements. Additionally, the PHDD is responsible for mentoring staff, supporting professional growth, and implementing policies that ensure patient safety and satisfaction.
Key responsibilities include:
Administrative Functions:- Oversee daily operations of dental services within the FQHCs and mobile units, ensuring effective patient care.
- Develop and implement dental services polices and procedure to meet care standards and FQHC requirements.
- Establish training standards and monitor treatment procedures for quality and safety.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards governing dental practice.
- Manage provider and dental staff schedules, ensuring integration of dental services within FQHCs.
- Collaborate with the Public Health Medical Director on clinic operations, staffing, and resource planning.
- Participating in the recruitment, training, and evaluation of dental staff to maintain a high-performing team.
- Supervise dental staff to ensure goals related to production, quality, and compliance are met.
- Oversee the dental program's financial management, including budgeting and revenue optimization.
- Manage contracts, grants, and supplier relationships to secure quality materials at cost- effective prices.
- Act as liaison between dental staff and administration, fostering internal and external partnerships.
- Promote oral health initiatives and services across diverse communities.
Clinical Functions:- Provide general dental care, meeting productivity targets.
- Educate patients and the community on oral health and disease prevention.
- Assist in ongoing education and training for dental staff.
- Provide coverage at other health centers as needed.
Performance Improvement/Quality Improvement:- Lead quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient satisfaction and clinical outcomes.
- Oversee peer review and ensure the quality of dental care meets program needs.
- Track compliance with performance measures and implement strategies to meet expectations.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT - Basic Life Support Certification: Must possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support certification.
- Pre-Employment Process: Incumbent selected for this positions must pass a background check which includes verification of employment history and education as well as a physical exam and drug screening.
- Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation.

Minimum RequirementsApplicants must meet all of the following requirements:
License: Possession of a current unrestricted license as a Dentist by the State of California Board of Dental Examiners.
Certificate: A Healthcare Provider level Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate.
Experience: Five (5) years of post-licensure dental practice, with at least three (3) years in a supervisory or managerial role overseeing dental staff. Supervisory or managerial experience must be within the last five (5) years.
