Why you’ll love this position:The Bureau of Health Care Analysis and Data Dissemination is seeking an Associate Epidemiologist to work with and describe Missouri health data. This mid-level position will appeal to individuals who have strong statistical and analytic skills and also enjoy creating/writing reports geared towards both public health and general public audiences. As part of a collaborative team, this position will work primarily with Missouri's hospital surveillance systems including Syndromic Surveillance System (ESSENCE) and the Missouri Patient Abstract System (PAS). This position will serve as the primary epidemiology specialist responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting Missouri syndromic surveillance datasets. This position requires considerable judgment in providing alert information about possible disease clusters or outbreaks to other department staff and local public health agencies, and requires considerable discretion in maintaining and sharing information and data of a confidential nature. The position will also assist in compiling and analyzing data from the PAS files which include inpatient and outpatient information.
- Monitoring the Electronic Surveillance System for the Early Notification of Community-based Epidemics (ESSENCE) on both local and federal platform, and other data systems on a daily (or more frequently as needed) basis to detect potential public health events.
- Completing and distributing reports for situational awareness.
- Provide data as needed for the Department's Emergency Response team.
- Developing data queries for syndromic surveillance.
- Providing data tables for ad hoc requests related to PAS files.
- Providing training and technical assistance to ESSENCE users.
- Monitoring data quality and conducting evaluation of ESSENCE and PAS.
- Assisting with system upgrades, grant applications and progress reports.
- Assisting with ESSENCE user management as the Local Security Officer of ESSENCE program.
- Participating conference, meetings and trainings related to syndromic surveillance.
Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree. Transcripts are required.
- At least two years of experience with data and analysis. Advanced education may be used as a substitute in applicable situations.
- Experience with spreadsheets and word processing programs such as Excel and Word as well as other PC desktop resources.
- Experience with SAS or other statistical software and general programming techniques is highly desirable but not required.
- Interest in data presentation and data visualization software is helpful.
- Highly organized and detail oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills.
