Job DescriptionWage Agency Instructor - Public Safety Wellness $45.00/hour Part-Time (Temporary/Casual) Position7 Positions to be FilledTelecommuterThe Wage Agency Instructor is responsible for providing training for the Support That Saves: Building and Sustaining Peer Support course. This position is funded through the Homeland Security National Training Program Cooperative Agreement. The Wage Agency Instructor will conduct course topic presentations to include demonstrations with course teaching aids. The instructor will utilize their knowledge of adult learning theories and learning styles to present and maximize learner success to varying audiences (Public Safety/First Responder, Public Health, Health Care, Emergency Management, Federal, State, Local and Tribal Disaster support personnel) in a manner to ensure effectiveness of course instruction.
This position reports to the Agency Training Manager.
Required Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Four years of related experience in a public safety/first responder profession.
- One year of adult education and/or training.
Equivalency: will consider a High School diploma with eight years of related experience in a public safety/first responder profession and one year of adult education and/or training or an associate’s degree in a related field with six years of related experience in a public safety/first responder profession and one year of adult education and/or training.
Required Licenses/Certifications: - Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
- Current passport or ability to obtain within 180 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Ten years of experience serving first responders, or as a first responder.
- Experience rendering Critical Incident Stress Management, as well as peer-support and/or wellness services to first responders.
Physical Requirements:- Regular use of computer/keyboard.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to support training delivery for up to 8-10 hours/day (standing).
- Physical conditioning consistent with setting up classrooms, wearing/movement of personal protective equipment, movement of training equipment and instructional materials up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving and/or flying on commercial airlines.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Advanced working knowledge in fire, law enforcement, healthcare or public health, emergency management, search and rescue.
- Ability to lead instruction and provide effective demonstration hands-on training activities.
- Excellent communication (oral/written) and presentation skills.
- Knowledge of principles and methods for teaching and instructing individuals and groups.
- Skilled in utilizing various learning and active listening strategies.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and classroom management skills.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to work effectively with customers, co-workers, and staff of all levels.
- Ability to interact respectfully and professionally with customers, co-workers, and staff of all levels.
- Working knowledge of basic office software, computers and instructional programs.

Notifications:- This position is security sensitive.
- This position is funded from grant and/or contract funding, which is renewed through provisions of the grantor of the contract. Therefore, this position is contingent upon continuation of funding from these grants and/or contracts, as well as satisfactory job performance.
- This position may require domestic and international travel.
- This position requires up to 50% or more travel to include air travel, and when assigned driving to class locations within a given City, State, or US Territory.
- All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.
- This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.
- This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages: Serve as a member of the instructional team for the Support That Saves program - 80%- Serves as a member of the instructional team to ensure that the course is effectively and efficiently presented in accordance with DHS and TEEX certified curriculum.
- Ensures classrooms/exercise locations are ready for participants.
- Prepares training/exercise materials, training aids, and/or equipment prior to course deliveries.
- Develops instructional techniques to accommodate diverse learning styles.
- Initiates and maintains collaborative classroom discussionsand monitors learner performance.
- Ensures participants have achieved terminal objectives of the course.
- Ensures training/exercise materials, training aids, and classrooms/exercise locations are secured and accounted for upon completion of the course.
- Develops and maintains subject matter expertise in pediatric disaster preparedness to include current and emerging issues.
Training Documentation - 15%- Ensures class documentation is completed in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with Division Guidance, Agency, and contractual requirements (if applicable).
Administrative/Fiscal Responsibility - 5%- Submits administrative paperwork to include timesheets and travel expenses/receipts within the required time frame per agency and division policy.
Other Duties:- Maintains a clean and professional appearance.
- Completes TAMUS/Agency required training within the requested due dates.
- Represent TEEX in a professional and positive light during travel and classroom instruction.
- Maintains and safeguards assigned divisional equipment and property.
- Performs additional work duties as assigned.
