    Job Description

    Location: Central Office

    Salary: Level I: Up to $61,600 based on education and experience

    Level II: Up to $72,600 based on education and experience

    Level III: Up to $83,600 based on education and experience

    Full Time /Part Time: Full Time

    Work Schedule: Monday-Friday

    Primary Hours: 8am-5pm

    Position Description: The Population Health Analyst is responsible for the Center for Health Statistics (CHS), acting as subject matter expert on the statistical analysis of Oklahoma population health data. This position will serve as the State BRFSS Coordinator and work in partnership with the CDC in all aspects of the BRFSS including grant application, budget, data collection, data analysis and data reporting.

    Position Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
    • Analyze and effectively communicate the results of population level data.
    • Assist in the development of community level profiles, report writing, and statistical analysis for multiple databases that include hospital and ambulatory surgery discharge data, vital statistics (births and deaths), induced termination of pregnancy (ITOP), and the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS).
    • Provide epidemiologic support, data management and evaluation related to population health data.
    • Oversee and direct the compiling, statistical analysis, interpretation and reporting of community health surveillance data
    • Advise analysts/epidemiologists, local partners, tribal partners, regional districts, community organizations and county health departments on the analysis and utilization of the BRFSS survey data.
    • Conduct or direct special data analyses in response to data requests and special studies.
    • Prepare written reports, scientific articles, educational materials, presentations and summaries of survey projects, with graphics such as graphs, charts and statistical tables.
    • Assist with the development and implementation of analytic techniques to answer questions from leadership and stakeholders/partners.
    • Assist with the planning for CHS Analytic and Dissemination division.
    • Manage budget related to the CDC BRFSS grant and contractors involved in implementing the Oklahoma BRFSS.
    • Serve on various OSDH committees, councils and workgroups.
    • Being present in the office is an essential function of this job.
    • Other duties as assigned


    Other Duties
    • Demonstrates knowledge of and supports mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Level I : requirements at this level consist of a master’s in public health, statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology or related field, which includes 6 semester hours in epidemiological methods and 6 semester hours of other epidemiological coursework and 9 semester hours in statistical methods and analysis.

    Level II : requirements at this level consist of a master’s in public health, statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology or related field and one year of experience in a field involving the use of epidemiological research, investigation, and analysis or a doctorate in epidemiology.

    Level III: requirements at this level consist of those identified in Level II and three years of experience in a field involving the use of epidemiological techniques and analysis; or a doctorate in epidemiology and one year of qualifying experience.

    Valued Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Knowledge of epidemiology methods, statistical analysis; of epidemiological or statistical software; of current epidemiological developments and techniques; and of quality assurance methods for data collection and analysis.
    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to meet with the public and conduct public information programs; to write technical and non-technical information material; to use a personal computer and applicable software; and to manipulate large databases.

    Physical Demands and Work Environment:

    Work is typically performed in an office setting with climate-controlled settings and exposure to moderate noise levels. While performing the duties of the job, employees are required to talk, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms; carry light items; drive an automobile. This position requires long periods of sitting and daily use of computers and phones. Applicants must be willing to perform all job-related travel associated with this position. Occasionally, in state overnight and weekend travel may be required. Being present at the office is an essential function of the job
