    About the Department

    The Office of the City Attorney is committed to providing excellent legal services, consistent with the highest professional and ethical standards, to the City with the goal of protecting and advancing its interests in serving the people of San José. The Office is seeking a motivated individual with the ability to work independently and also in a team environment.

    Position Duties

    The City of San José, Office of the City Attorney is seeking an Associate Attorney in the Litigation Division. This position will require the successful applicant to research and analyze legal issues, prepare pleadings and evidentiary presentations, and make frequent court appearances to prosecute misdemeanor municipal code violations, respond to Pitchess motions, and pursue restraining orders relating to guns, or workplace safety. This is a one-year position in the Litigation Division.

    Minimum Qualifications

    The successful candidate must have an active license to practice law in California. The position requires the analytical ability to identify and prepare successful evidentiary presentations through excellent written and oral advocacy, together with strong organizational skills to manage a high volume case load.
