    Position Summary

    Support Financial Accuracy and Integrity at SDSU!

    Are you detail-oriented, process-driven, and passionate about ensuring compliance and financial excellence? Join San Diego State University as an Accounts Payable, Accounting Technician II and play a vital role in supporting the university’s financial operations by auditing and processing invoices, supporting travel and credit card programs, and ensuring adherence to institutional, state, and federal guidelines.

    In this critical position, you’ll develop expertise in financial systems, workflow tools, and compliance regulations while directly supporting the financial well-being of the university.

    Key Responsibilities:

    As the Accounting Technician II, you will:
    • Process Vendor Invoices: Access Oracle Payables eBusiness Suite and document imaging systems to independently process a high volume of invoices with accuracy and efficiency.
    • Ensure Compliance: Audit invoices to ensure completeness, validity, and compliance with SDSU, CSU, State of California, and Federal regulations.
    • Audit and Reconcile Reports: Regularly audit and reconcile reports related to payables, identifying discrepancies and ensuring timely resolution.
    • Support Credit Card and Travel Programs: Assist with the administration and auditing of the university’s credit card and travel programs, ensuring policy adherence and data integrity.
    • Analyze and Take Initiative: Use sound judgment and initiative to analyze information, resolve issues, and recommend solutions within established procedures and policies.

    Position Information
    • This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible permanent/probationary position.
    • This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
    • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
    • This position is approved for partial telecommuting with onsite work in San Diego.

    Department Summary

    The Accounts Payable Department is responsible for processing over $200 million annually in payments for materials and services ordered by the University. This department works closely with the Logistical Services Department concerning the receipt of materials, Contract and Procurement Management to assure payment of correct materials and services, and the Accounting Services Department for appropriate charging of these materials and services. The Accounts Payable Department consists of one manager (Administrator I), 6-7 accounting technicians, and up to one student assistant.

    Education and Experience

    Equivalent to three years of progressively responsible financial record-keeping experience which has provided the above knowledge and abilities.

    Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.

    Key Qualifications
    • Thorough knowledge of financial record-keeping, mathematical and general office methods, procedures, and practices.
    • Ability to apply accounting procedures and practices to the analysis of basic accounting problems.
    • Ability to analyze and interpret accounting data.
    • Ability to apply problem solving techniques in finding solutions to basic accounting problems.
    • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
    • Ability to use current computer word processing and spreadsheet software programs, web browsers, query tools, integrated financial systems and/or other types of records management systems, such as student accounting, cashiering and student financial aid.

    Compensation and Benefits

    Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,101 per month.

    Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

    CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,872 - $6,428 per month.
