    Marin County Printing Services is a full-service facility with state-of-the-art digital technology. If you can dream it, we can print it, from vehicle graphics and outdoor signage to business cards, volume mailing, and braille. Our highly experienced staff support printing services across the County.

    ABOUT THE POSITION

    The Department of Public Works Printing Services Division is currently recruiting for one (1) full-time temporary/contingent Reprographics Apprentice. The position is located on-site at the Marin County Civic Center in San Rafael, CA .

    Under the direction of the Supervising Reprographic Technician, the Reprographic Technician works with a variety of high-speed copiers and printers related to printing and wide format reproduction to produce a variety of County records and documents. The Reprographic Technician will also:
    • Provide customers with excellent customer service as they assist users with submitting job requisitions using the online WEB2Print management application system.
    • Provide support in all aspects of the production; set priorities, tracking progress and resolving schedule conflicts and problems.
    • Participate in the ongoing administrative aspects including deliveries, paper organization, clean up, machine maintenance and stocking of products.

We need someone who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic, and sometimes noisy environment while consistently upholding safety guidelines. You'll be comfortable with everything from traditional presses to new-age digital equipment and eager to continuously learn and master a broad range of reprographics and printing technologies.

    KNOWLEDGE OF
    • Thorough knowledge of the types, qualities, weights and uses of paper, inks, solvents and patented products used with offset and xerography machines.
    • Operation, adjustment, minor repairs and production capabilities of offset duplicating and high speed xerography machines.
    • Methods and techniques of making plates and producing camera ready copy using computerized techniques.
    ABILITY TO
    • Operate, adjust and maintain an offset duplicating and high speed/xerography machine and auxiliary equipment independently, safely, effectively and efficiently.
    • Perform typesetting, layout, paste-up tasks accurately and efficiently.
    • Follow written and oral work instructions.
    • Perform basic arithmetical calculations.
    • Set up, adjust and operate automated peripheral equipment such as collator, cutter, folder, various bindery equipment.
    • Operate camera and platemaking equipment including stripping of negatives and developing of film and plates.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES
    Any combination of education and experience and/or specialized training that would provide the knowledge and skills listed. Typically, equivalent to one year of experience in the operation of offset printing and peripheral equipment.
    Certificates and Licenses
    This position is required to travel between various County and business-related locations. Employees who drive on County business to carry out job-related duties must possess a valid California driver's license for the class vehicle driven and must meet automobile insurability requirements of the County.
