The Position
This recruitment is being conducted to establish an eligibility list for current and future full-time, part-time, limited-term, and extra help vacancies at any Napa County Library locations: American Canyon, Calistoga, Napa, or Yountville , for up to one year.
Bilingual Spanish/English applicants are encouraged to apply.
Permanent Full-time positions are allocated, benefited positions working 40 hours per week.
Permanent Part-time positions are allocated, benefited positions working less than 40 hours per week.
Extra help assignments are non-benefited and may be used for on-call needs up to 29 hours per week ( up to 1,000 hours per fiscal year). Extra help employees are not eligible for promotional opportunities open to regular part-time and full-time employees.
Napa County employees (permanent part-time and full-time) assigned to positions that require bilingual communication skills and who pass the bilingual assessments are eligible to receive a bilingual pay differential of up to $100 biweekly in addition to their regular pay.

Under general supervision, a Library Monitor proactively establishes and maintains relationships with library patrons, staff, and others in the community. A Library Monitor assists in maintaining a safe and secure environment for library patrons and staff in assigned branch locations by identifying and resolving safety and patron behavior concerns, enforcing Library policies, and assisting with basic patron services.
Position Requirements
Experience and Education: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
Experience: Some experience as a noon duty supervisor or in security, safety, loss prevention, or law enforcement is desirable.
Education: Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
License or Certificate*:
Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
Completion of a basic first aid course and current CPR certificate is required within the first three months of employment.
*Any license, certification, or registration required for this position shall be maintained (i.e., active and in good standing) at all times during employment with Napa County. For continued employment with Napa County, you must maintain such license, certification, or registration to meet the minimum qualifications of this position.

AUGUST 1, 2025 Supplemental Questions Scoring The week of August 11, 2025. Supplemental questions will be scored by subject matter experts. The most qualified applicants from the scoring of the supplemental questions will be invited for an Oral Panel Interview. Oral Panel Interview Tentatively scheduled for the week of September 1, 2025.
The most qualified candidates from the oral panel interview will be placed on the eligibility list and may be considered for current and future positions for up to one year.

PUBLIC SERVICES EMPLOYEES BENEFITS INFORMATION
SALARY -
Salaries are based on a five-step range. Appointments are usually made at the beginning step with advances occurring at six months and the completion of each year thereafter. Salary rates are reviewed annually.
