DefinitionThe Newport Beach Fire Department is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join the team as a part-time Fire Support Services Aide. The selected candidate will provide various support services to fire and lifeguard operations personnel. Additionally, they may be called upon to assist other City departments and the community.
SCHEDULE: - The anticipated schedule will be approximately 20 hours a week; Monday - Friday.
SELECTION COMPONENTS: - Application Evaluation: Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis with the first review date of August 18, 2025. The recruitment will remain open until the position is filled.
- Online Exam: Tentatively scheduled for the week of August 25 , 2025 . Top scoring applicants who pass the examination will be invited to a virtual interview.
- Virtual Interview: Tentatively scheduled for September 4, 2025. Passing applicants will be placed on an eligibility list that may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.
CalPERS: - The City offers an excellent benefit package and membership in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). The retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS and the employee is required to contribute 11.5% of pay toward the retirement benefit.

Experience & Education and License/CertificateA combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience : No experience is required, however, one year of related general support or delivery experience is preferred. Related Fire Department or Fire Academy experience is desirable.
Education : Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
License/Certificate: Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.
