    Job Summary

    DEFINITION

    Performs a variety of technical and administrative support duties in support of transit safety, security, and training programs.

    SUPERVISION

    Receives general supervision from the Transit Safety and Training Manager and/or designee.

    Representative Duties

    Researches, retrieves, reviews, produces, and stores surveillance footage using specialized software and video storage. Produces digital copies of footage for internal, law enforcement, and public requests. Works with external vendors to resolves issues related to the surveillance software and maintenance.

    Assistswith the investigation of occurrence and incident reports by retrieving footage, photos, documents, and other relevant evidence; forwards unsafe behavior observations to management.
    Reviews, processes, and distributes occurrence and security incident reports.

    Maintains logs and records of occurrences in a database.

    Respondsto internal and external requests for information from City departments and the public pertaining to reports, video footage, medical records, etc.

    Coordinates and provides responses to public record requests.

    Testifies in court as a subject matter expert regarding the areas of review, process, and surveillance footage retrieval.

    Provides input for the development of safety policy and procedures associated with bus operations and maintenance safety.

    Conducts pre-employment orientation sessions with candidates, assists candidates with the pre-employment documentation, coordinates with various City departments during the recruitment and pre-employment process.

    Coordinates and schedules division’s interviews; provides clerical assistance to professional staff involved in recruitment and selection activities.

    Provides a variety of routine and complex clerical and administrative support duties for the Transit Safety and Training Manager.

    Assists with implementation of division’s special projects such as safety awards.

    Performs other duties, as assigned.

    Requirements

    Knowledge of:

    Principles and practices of safety and accident prevention in transportation operation services
    Records management practices and procedures
    Modern office procedures and equipment
    Principles of business writing
    Common office productivity software applications, including word processing and spreadsheets
    Principle and techniques of customer service

    Ability to:

    Organize and coordinate the processing and distribution of reports
    Maintain confidentiality of information
    Research and synthesize information obtained through a review of surveillance footage
    Work independently with minimal supervision and frequent interruptions.
    Learn and use specialized software applications
    Acquire and maintain proficiency in the latest surveillance equipment technology
    Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports
    Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
    Exercise independent judgment and initiative
    Provide effective customer service and respond to inquiries from employees and the public in a tactful manner
    Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with City employees and the public

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Education: Graduation from high school or the equivalent.

    Experience: Three years of recent, paid work experience performing administrative support duties. Recent experience in a safety or security-related environment is desirable. An Associate’s degree (or 60 semester units at an accredited college or university) may substitute for one year of the required experience.

    Licenses and Certificates:

    Possession of a valid Class C driver license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Work is generally performed indoors in an office environment and requires frequent sitting and use of a computer keyboard and screen. Physical demands may include walking, standing, kneeling, bending, reaching and grasping. May require boarding buses in an outdoor environment to retrieve surveillance footage. May be required to attend court hearings and depositions.

    SELECTION PROCESS :

If fewer than three qualified City employees pass the examination, the appointing authority, in accordance with the City's civil service rules and regulations, can decline to use a promotional list, in which case a promotional list will not be established for this position.
