    The LA County Board of Supervisors has unanimously ratified a Proclamation of Local Emergency in response to the windstorms and wildfires , including the Palisades and Eaton Fires, that have devastated communities across the County. We are looking for qualified and passionate individuals to assist the County in mobilizing resources and support needed to help our residents recover and rebuild.     The County of Los Angeles Fire Department is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Building Crafts Superintendent Iposition vacancies related to the unprecedented disaster.

    Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment.

    During your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%.

    Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Building Crafts Superintendent I position.

    DEFINITION :
    Has immediate charge of the alteration, construction, maintenance and repair programs of a County department or facility.

    CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS :

    Positions allocable to this class are characterized by their responsibility to establish and maintain a maintenance and repair program for County buildings, facilities and equipment within their department of assignment; (a) using the services of a work force of less than 30 trades and crafts workers and supervisors in a limited number of craft or trade skill fields or (b) using a work force composed of patients at a Department of Health Services facility.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Plans, assigns, coordinates, directs and evaluates the work of a small variety of crafts, trades and maintenance workers and supervisors engaged in construction, maintenance, alteration or repair of County facilities and equipment.
    • Supervises a small variety of crafts/trades workers and/or supervisors as needed.
    • Confers with facility users to establish requirements of new or altered facilities.
    • Coordinates the work of the maintenance forces with the users of the facility.
    • Reviews plans and specifications, identifying and reporting observed design deficiencies.
    • Inspects contract construction work in progress in conjunction with representatives of the Internal Services Department to insure adherence to plans and specifications.
    • Insures compliance with applicable building, fire and safety codes and recommends or initiates programs to correct deficiencies.
    • Prepares a maintenance and alteration program and provides input related to budget appropriations.
    • Reviews work requests and prepares cost estimates, priority recommendations, and designs as necessary.
    • Organizes work assignments and projects so as to utilize available work force skills.
    • Establishes or assists in establishing section policies, practices, and standards.
    • Supervises or coordinate custodial and other similar support services as needed.
    • Supervises the operation of the utility systems serving the facility as needed.
    • Supervises the maintenance and repair of assigned vehicles as needed.


    Requirements

    TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :

    Option I:
    One year's experience as a building crafts or mechanical trades working supervisor or higher.

    Option II:
    One year's experience a s the superintendent of construction, responsible from the start of construction through final acceptance, of a commercial or industrial building project for human habitation exceeding one million dollars in construction costs.

    LICENSE:
    A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

    PHYSICAL CLASS :
    Physical Class II - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
