Job Description
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in a Engineering, Business or related field plus ten (10) years of relevant electric utility experience at least five (5) years of which were in a managerial or executive capacity.
- Masters degree may substitute for two (2) years of the required experience up to a maximum of two (2) years.

Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
Directs management of all utility functions to ensure adequate generation and system resources are available to meet customer demands. Is responsible for strategic development of AE’s policies and procedures to include managing the portfolio includes nuclear, coal, natural gas, and renewable energy sources. Oversees the renewable energy programs to include the green building program and residential and commercial energy efficiency programs. Plans, negotiates, organizes, directs, and controls activities of utility services. Analyzes business needs and develop short and long range strategies, goals, and action plans to meet those needs. Develops and monitors the assigned operations, maintenance and capital improvement program budgets. Represents AE’s interests before State and National level on policy, energy, and environmental issues, including governmental and regulatory agencies, boards, council, and commissions. Ensures the reliability of the AE electric system and develop systems to minimize outage duration and outage frequency. Provides leadership in developing and maintaining the standards of the City’s energy code for residential and commercial buildings. Participates as a member of the City Manager’s Executive Team.

Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.- Knowledge of Local, State and Federal law and City ordinances.
- Knowledge of renewable energy policies and energy efficiency programs
- Knowledge of supervisory and managerial techniques and principles.
- Knowledge of budgeting methods and systems.
- Skill in oral and written communications.
- Skill in handling conflict and uncertain situations.
- Skill in collecting, analyzing and interpreting applicable research data.
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities
- Ability to analyze and resolve irregular events.

City Government
The City of Austin is a progressive, full-service municipal organization operating under the Council-Manager form of government. Austin has a 10-1 council system with an at-large Mayor and Council Members that represent ten districts. The Mayor and Council Members may serve in their respective seats for four years with a maximum of two consecutive terms.
The City Council appoints the City Manager who is the chief administrative and executive officer of the City.
