    Essential Job Functions

    Assists the Golf Director in the following activities:

    • Directs, through lessees, the operation and maintenance of golf course facilities and the scheduling of routine games of golf and special events, such as junior, adult, senior, and charitable golf tournaments and outings.
    • Establishes, administers, and evaluates specialized golf programs, policies, and procedures related to operations, golf play, and activities.
    • Develops, designs, and schedules golf special events, such as competitions, clinics, workshops, and lessons.
    • Directs and controls the ordering of materials, supplies, and equipment for specialized golf programs.
    • Evaluates and monitors the golf course system operation and the progress of capital improvement projects.
    • Monitors and enforces the management of lessees performance as it relates to contractual obligations in maintenance service, starter and concession operations, and other golf operations.
    • Researches, applies for, and tracks various types of grants, as well as, local sources of revenue to carry out specialized golf program operations and activities.
    • Investigates, or supervises the investigation of, complaints by the public and the department regarding golf course facility operations and recommends solutions.
    • Evaluates and prepares reports on staff assigned to golf course facilities to ensure proper maintenance and service to the public.
    • Engages with community, civic, governmental, and professional groups in order to foster interest in golf programs and maintain a positive public image for the department.
    • Directs the publishing and distribution of informational and promotional literature.
    • Prepares correspondence and reports, including a variety of golf statistical reports for departmental information.

    Requirements

    REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY:

    Option I: A Bachelor's degree* from an accredited college or university -AND- One year of experience in golf programming,** golf instruction***, or golf course operations.****

    -OR-

    Option II: Five years of experience in golf programming,* golf instruction,** or golf course operations.***

    LICENSE:
    A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

    PHYSICAL CLASS:
    Physical Class II - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

    **Golf programming includes developing or implementing structured methods and plans to introduce and develop people in the sport of golf. This includes personal growth, physical development, social skills, golf etiquette and rules.

    ***Golf instruction includes the practice of teaching and improving a player’s skill and performance by providing guidance on techniques, strategies, or practice methods. This experience must occur as an employee or contractor of a business offering golf services.

    **** Golf course operations are responsibilities related to golf course maintenance or golf clubhouse operations.

    Desirable Qualifications:
    Additional experience beyond the minimum requirements supervising golf programming, golf instruction, or golf course operations.

    Examination Content:
    The examination will consist of an evaluation of experience and desirable qualifications based on application information and supplemental questionnaire, weighted 100%.

    You must meet the requirements and achieve a passing score of 70% or higher in order to be placed on the eligible register.

    Applications will be processed on an as-received basis and promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.

    Eligibility and Vacancy Information:
    Candidates who passed the assessment are placed on a register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months. We will use this list to fill vacancies as they occur.
