    The Position

    This Recruitment will be Open Until Filled

    We are seeking temporary staff to assist with the upcoming November Statewide Special Election. We are hiring a variety of full-time assignments that will last between 2 and 12 weeks.     You will typically be responsible for one or more of the following tasks:
    • Data entry, including entering voter registration applications, verifying voter signatures, and updating voter information in a database.
    • Assisting in recruiting volunteers to work at the polls on Election Day.
    • Assisting in the assembly of polling place supplies and testing voting equipment.
    • Supporting mail processing operations.
    • Oversight and support of volunteers for specific processes.
    • Providing in-person and phone customer service to constituents.
    • Leading a Regional Early Voting location.
    • Retrieving and securing ballots from Vote-by-Mail drop boxes located throughout Contra Costa County.
    • Assisting with conducting poll worker training and giving instruction in a group setting.
    • Reviewing and proofreading voting materials in English, Spanish, or Chinese.
    • Assisting in ballot processing activities.

    Required Knowledge and Abilities:

    Knowledge of:
    • Basic spreadsheet, word processing, and database management programs
    • General clerical processes
    • Customer service

    Ability to:
    • maintain accuracy and attention to detail with assigned work
    • follow oral and written directions
    • to read, write, and speak English fluently
    • deal effectively with the public, other agencies and organizations
    • work independently and as part of a team
    • sit and stand for extended amounts of time
    • perform essential duties and physical functions for a substantial amount of mandatory overtime during peak election periods, including evenings, weekends and holidays during peak election time (four weeks before each major election and up to four weeks after)
    • lift minimum weight, and up to 50 pounds for some assignments
    • perform essential election functions for up to 16 hours or more on Election Day
    • maintain positive attendance and punctuality
    • represent the department in a non-partisan manner while working.


    Minimum Qualifications

    Education: Possession of a high school diploma, G.E.D. equivalency, or high school proficiency certificate.

    Other: Some assignments may require the candidate to drive a county vehicle or their own personal vehicle.

    Desirable Qualifications :

    • Experience performing data entry tasks
    • Experience providing customer service in person and/or over the phone
    • Fluency in Spanish or Chinese
    • Supervisorial experience


    Selection Process

    2. Application Evaluation: An application Evaluation Board will convene to evaluate and select the best-qualified candidates for an invitation to the next phase of the examination.

    CONVICTION HISTORY

    After you receive a conditional job offer, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you have received a conditional job offer. If a conflict exists, you will be asked to present any evidence of rehabilitation that may mitigate the conflict, except when federal or state regulations bar employment in specific circumstances. Having a conviction history does not automatically preclude you from a job with Contra Costa County. If you accept a conditional job offer, the Human Resources Department will contact you to schedule a fingerprinting appointment.

    DISASTER SERVICE WORKER

    All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
