    As the CAU Manager, you will have the opportunity to build for a stronger tomorrow by applying your diverse background, education, and work experiences to a variety of unique construction projects while mentoring a team of high-caliber talent. You will oversee and coordinate a team of Construction Project Specialists and Construction Project Technicians responsible for the administration of new construction, remodeling, and maintenance and repair projects statewide for state agencies, using a variety of delivery methods such as design-bid-build, design-build, or Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR).     This position is with the Office of Administration Division of Facilities Management, Design, and Construction (OA-FMDC) leading the Construction Administration Unit within the Design and Construction Team. OA-FMDC is committed to strengthening the State’s investments while providing a safe and secure environment through innovative design solutions and excellent customer service.

    • Prioritize excellent customer service for a wide and diverse network of internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to internal teams, state agencies, state officials, contractors, and the public.
    • Report to the Deputy Director of Design and Construction and oversee a team of 15, consisting of one supervisor, 13 full-time, and one part-time team member.
    • Provide assistance in administrative oversight and supervision of team members, including hire recommendations, training, planning, assigning work, performance assessment, coaching, and more. (Supervision at this level also requires these employees to have the knowledge and skills to perform and review the work overseen.)
    • Cultivate a positive, healthy team culture through mentoring, providing constructive feedback, and facilitating team meetings to communicate and explain directives, policies, guidelines, and procedures for transparency on changes. This role will oversee the team’s activities, identifies appropriate resources, and is held accountable for deliverables and measuring project outcomes.
    • Manage multiple state-owned projects throughout the construction phases. (Projects managed are typically multi-year and multi-faceted as well as the largest in terms of size, scope, complexity, and impact on the State.)
    • Responsible for project planning, which may include developing project plans and timelines.
    • Review and ensure accuracy of submittals, substitutions, cost estimates, Applications for Payments, Request for Proposals, Contract Changes, Test Reports, Inspections, Operations and Maintenance Manuals, Warranties, Payrolls, Close Out Documents, and other legally binding documents.
    • Identify, understand, and communicate requirements of construction projects, and participate in collaborative problem solving, including identifying potential and current issues as projects progress and propose resolutions in a positive manner.
    • Interpret and apply plans, specifications, and codes while following building codes, environmental regulations, and safety codes.
    • Travel to job sites regularly and consult with agency staff, public officials, architects, engineers, surveyors, contractors, and other key stakeholders, regarding new construction and maintenance and repair projects.
    • Facilitate and document project progress meetings and inspections.
    • Follow all OA-FMDC health and safety protocols in addition to OSHA standards.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.


    • Ability to communicate, collaborate, and operate with integrity in a manner that inspires trust and builds positive rapport with a diverse group of stakeholders and the public.
    • Knowledge and ability to plan, coordinate, schedule, and oversee construction projects with an understanding of all aspects of construction to provide resolutions to situations that arise.
    • Skill in understanding, interpreting, and applying applicable laws, rules, regulations, codes, and standards. Skill in assessing situations and providing resolutions to mitigate potential risks.
    • Experience in and ability to interpret and apply building codes; environmental regulations; safety codes; technical construction documentation such as project manuals, plans, and specifications (including symbols, notations, and legends on drawings); applicable laws, rules, regulations, codes, and standards; and project management processes and procedures.
    • Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead a team, including the training, mentoring, coaching, and skills development of staff.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
    • Working knowledge of Adobe, Bluebeam, and Project Management software (i.e., E-Builder, etc.).
    • Bachelor’s degree, and/or five (5) or more years of professional experience in the administration of construction projects. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
    • Safety-first mindset with considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
    • OSHA 10 and/or 30 preferred, but FMDC can provide if needed.
    • Excellent time management, organizational, planning, and communication skills.
    • Excellent attendance, work ethic, attention to detail, conflict management, and critical thinking skills.
    • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license from Missouri or from an adjacent state if you reside outside of Missouri.

Authorization to work in the United States is a prerequisite of employment. The Office of Administration will not sponsor applicants for work visas. The salary indicated represents a base pay rate. If the individual selected or the position is eligible for a pay differential (e.g., shift, security, or years of service), it will be added to the total compensation in your paycheck. A pay differential does not raise your base pay.

    *This position is physically demanding. Examples of job duties may include prolonged periods of walking/standing/sitting/bending/driving, climbing ladders, ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds, working in inclement weather and working on uneven or elevated surfaces. This list is not all inclusive, but a general representation of duties that may be encountered in this position, however other duties may be assigned contingent upon business needs. Please note, this position is considered a “Category 0” under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), meaning the incumbent will not normally receive overtime compensation except in unusual circumstances as determined by appointing authorities.
