    Mohave County Public Works is so excited to announce an amazing employment opportunity.

    Mohave County Public Works-Equipment Maintenance/Fleet Services Division is looking to fill an Equipment Mechanic Senior position.

    We are located at 3715 Sunshine Drive, Kingman, AZ.

    Our Mission

    To maintain and repair all County vehicles and equipment to OEM standards or better; to provide safe and reliable transportation to all Mohave County Divisions and personnel that are required to utilize the vehicles and/or equipment.

    About us

    Fleet Services Division is a customer-centered service organization that provides a wide range of services including vehicle maintenance and equipment-related support services to all Mohave County departments. The division provides for all facets of vehicle/equipment diagnostics and repairs while providing a preventative maintenance program to assure dependability, availability, and safety of the fleet. Our warehouse provides parts for repairs to County vehicles/equipment and general use items in other County departments. Fuel dispensing operations at the County Service Center compound is available 24/7 for all County departments including after-hours roadside assistance program for all Mohave County departments.

    Equipment Services Technician -> Salary Range 11 Steps 1-8 $19.13 - $23.54/hr.
    Equipment Mechanic -> Salary Range 14 Steps 1-6 $22.15 - $25.67/hr.
    Equipment Mechanic Senior -> Salary Range 16 Steps 1-3 $24.42 - $25.90/hr.


    • Monday - Friday - 7:00am-3:30pm
    • Weekends and Holidays off.
    • Must pass drug screen post offer.
    • Tools are to be provided and maintained at the employee's cost.
    • Work may be subject to call-back, on-call status, and overtime and/or irregular schedules including weekends and holidays in the event of a possible weather-related state of emergency.


    Must be able to travel throughout different county locations. Working conditions would include but not limited to:
    • Work is also subject to traveling and exposure to varying weather conditions such as when a vehicle emergency occurs; may include traveling out-of-town to outlying or remote areas of Mohave County.
    • Work outdoors performing moderate to strenuous manual labor in varying weather conditions, including strong winds, extreme heat to extreme cold temperatures while performing service/repair work.
    • Work involves the use and safe operation of hand and power tools and equipment in cramped and contorted positions.
    • Involves exposure to exhaust fumes, chemical fumes, acid, oil, grease, hazardous materials, and loud noises from equipment.
    • This position requires an equal amount of time spent standing, walking, sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, bending, climbing ladders, and confined spaces.
    • The ability to frequently be able to lift 25lbs up to 50lbs or more while operating heavy equipment.


    Essential Job Functions

    • Determines what parts and materials will be required to be replaced, repaired, rebuilt, or overhauled and completes order form for required parts and materials.
    • Diagnoses, troubleshoots and repairs malfunctions on all construction equipment to include, but not limited to, graders, dozers, loaders, rollers, power sweepers, backhoes, cranes, excavators, heavy and light trucks, single and tandem axle, and shop or field cars and in accordance with shop and service manuals and established procedures.
    • Diagnoses, maintains, repairs, rebuilds, or overhauls vehicles and equipment components to include but not limited to gas and diesel engines; air and hydraulic systems to include brakes; 6, 12, & 24 volt electrical systems; emission and fuel systems to include diesel fuel injection systems; front end suspension and others; heating and air conditioning systems; power shift transmissions, automatic and transmission/transaxle and manual transmission/drive train and clutches; driving axle; air valves, pumps and motors; and other engine and vehicle components.
    • Road tests vehicles and operates equipment to assist in diagnosis and troubleshooting and to confirm repair.
    • Commutes to locations requiring servicing and repair assistance and performs diagnosis and repairs or installs temporary measures.
    • Assists other mechanics in repairing of vehicles and equipment as required providing guidance and instruction.
    • In absence of supervisor, provides functional supervision to associate personnel, determines priority and scheduling and assigning of work assignments and makes decisions on appropriate repair and service measures to take and evaluates service and repair work performed by subordinate personnel for adherence to established practices and procedures.
    • Performs regularly scheduled and preventive maintenance on automotive and heavy equipment vehicles and related equipment to include, but not limited to, changing oil and filters, lubricants, and checking condition of belts, tires and shocks in accordance with service manuals.
    • Maintains daily work records of work done, material used and time spent.
    • Occasionally fabricates parts, hoses and tools.
    • Maintains an adequate supply of materials, equipment and tools required to fulfill work assignments.
    • Cleans, maintains and services required equipment and tools used during performance of work assignments.
    • Keeps work area clean.


    Minimum Qualifications

    Required Minimum Education, Experience, and Training:
    Equipment Services Technician: Entry level experience including.
    • High School Diploma/GED (General Education Degree).
    • Two (2) years of education and / or experience in performing preventative maintenance on vehicles.
    • At least One (1) year experience must be in servicing heavy vehicles and heavy equipment.
    • Some apprentice experience in a skilled trade area and sufficient education to perform required arithmetic and to read and write information associated with the craft work assigned.
    • OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications.

    Equipment Mechanic: Three-year experience including.
    • High School Diploma/GED (General Education Degree).
    • Three (3) years successful experience in the heavy equipment vehicle maintenance and repair area as a Trades Helper or when filled from outside, three (3) years’ experience as an Equipment Mechanic or related field involving the maintenance and repair including overhauls of automotive and heavy equipment vehicles and related equipment.
    • OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications.

    Equipment Mechanic Senior: Five-year experience including.
    • High School diploma/GED (General Education Degree)
    • Five (5) years successful experience in the heavy equipment and repair area as an Equipment Mechanic or when filled from outside, five (5) years’ experience as an Equipment Mechanic or related field involving the maintenance and repair, rebuilding and overhauling of heavy equipment, vehicles and related equipment.
    • OR an equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the desired knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.


    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Methods, procedures, materials, equipment and tools used for the maintenance and repair of automotive and heavy equipment vehicles and related equipment to include heavy gasoline and diesel powered equipment and industrial and construction equipment.
    • Heavy equipment hydraulics, electrical systems, drive lines, gas and diesel engine, steering, cooling and air conditioning system and other related vehicle components of heavy equipment.
    • Performing all phases of automotive and equipment major repair including overhauls.
    • Safe, effective operation and maintenance of hand and power tools and equipment used in vehicle, heavy equipment and related equipment diagnosis, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, rebuilding, and overhauling.
    • Communicating and maintaining professionalism with the public, co-workers, and work contacts.
    • Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical problems of heavy equipment vehicles.
    • Safely and effectively service, maintain and repair assigned vehicles and equipment in accordance with standard repair, maintenance, operation, and safety procedures.
    • Overhaul and rebuild gas and diesel engines and other related components of automotive and heavy equipment vehicles and related equipment.
    • Provide instruction, training and direction to subordinate personnel and to prioritize, schedule, assign and evaluate work assignments performed by subordinate personnel.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date chronological records and documentation.
    • Interpret and apply established guidelines and procedures as provided in shop and service manuals and related documentation.
    • Follow and interpret written and oral instructions and data generated from diagnostic and troubleshooting equipment.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associate personnel and personnel of other County departments.
    • Fulfill physical requirements of work assignments to include moderate lifting of 20 - 50 pounds, utilizing physical exertion required to perform assignment and performing work assignments with the use of tools and equipment in cramped and contorted positions and performing work assignments in various terrains and in varying weather conditions including exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures.
