    The Missouri State Public Defender is committed to supporting clients through a holistic approach that addresses not only legal needs but also social and community-based challenges. As a Client Advocacy Coordinator, you will play a key role in sustaining this mission by applying for and administering grants and supporting the Holistic Defense Services (HDS) division, coordinating administrative activities, and supporting daily operations for HDS. This position is ideal for someone with an interest in grants, holistic advocacy, social work, public health, or public interest, who thrives on meaningful work that directly impacts people’s lives.

    As a Client Advocacy Coordinator, you will:

    • Apply for and administer grants, ensuring compliance with all administrative, training, record-keeping, and reporting requirements.

    • Prepare reports and deliverables for grant renewals and reporting.

    • Work with the Client Advocacy Director and HDS leadership to develop and implement training for HDS staff.

    • Coordinate recruitment and internship initiatives for HDS.

    • Provide administrative support, including scheduling interviews, onboarding staff, and assisting with IT needs for HDS staff.

    • Conduct AmeriCorps background checks on applicants.

    • Manage day-to-day office operations such as ordering supplies, coordinating meetings, and supporting training events for HDS.

    • Assist HDS leadership with a variety of administrative needs.

    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Strong research and writing skills; grant writing and reporting experience preferred.

    • Ability to compile and track program data.

    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and ability to quickly learn new systems.

    • Strong organizational and administrative skills with attention to detail.

    • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.

    • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

    • Ability to coordinate projects, problem-solve effectively, and meet deadlines.

    • High level of integrity, ethics, and confidentiality.

    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

    • Knowledge of AmeriCorps programming and reporting preferred.

    Education and Experience

    • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university required; Master’s degree in Social Work or a related field preferred.

    • Experience in grant writing and administration strongly preferred.

    • Prior office experience required; experience in a legal or nonprofit setting preferred.

    • Relevant responsible clerical experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for college.

    This position can be located in either St. Louis or Columbia.     The salary listed reflects the base pay rate. Verified prior state service, subject to applicable eligibility requirements, may increase total compensation.
