Why you’ll love this position:The financial services intern performs routine entry-level financial accounting, reporting, and support services activities. Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision.
- Review documents, forms, and reports to determine if payroll coding, transactions, and adjustments are correct; verify accuracy of timesheet coding; make payroll corrections; prepare reimbursements; may process forms necessary to enroll, maintain and update employee benefits.
- Perform various accounting functions, including reconciliations; monitoring delinquent accounts; depositing daily receipts; processing invoices and initiating vendor payments; assisting with the calculation of various overhead rates; and monitoring records for consumable inventories and capital/fixed assets.
- Maintain accounting records and prepare financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and Governmental Accounting Standards Board statements for the department, medical and life insurance plan, and self-insurance plan.
- Coordinate and conduct capital/fixed asset physical inventory and coordinates statewide physical inventory of capital/fixed assets and consumable inventory.
- Create documents for federally funded projects; monitor categories of cost for federal reimbursement; prepare Federal Highway Administration billing and final vouchers; submit documentation and maintain records for letters of credit.
- Compile information for various financial reports.
- Monitor daily cash balance for various funds and support the operating budget.
- Assist with research and report preparation for special requests of financial and statistical information.
- Analyze proposed state/federal legislation for possible fiscal impact on the department and prepares fiscal notes.
- Perform other responsibilities as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications - Enrolled in a relevant bachelor’s or post-bachelor’s degree program full-time (12+ credit hours).
- 30 credit hours completed/accepted toward current degree program. High school or other postsecondary program credits must be shown to be accepted by the current program through a degree transcript to apply.
- Possess and maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, or equivalent.
