Under direction of a Clinical Coordinator, the Per Diem Registered Nurse III will provide clinical support and direct or indirect nursing care to patients in Pediatrics, NICU and PICU as needed; and to perform related work as required. The Per Diem Nurse is distinguished from the Registered Nurse classification in that Per Diem Nurses are scheduled to work on an as-needed basis (intermittent) to supplement staffing needs.

WHAT WE OFFER:- Education Incentive: Possible educational incentive of $1.25 or $1.75 based on completion of a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
- Bilingual Incentive: Incumbents may be eligible for bilingual incentive depending upon operational need and certification of skill. Proficiency levels by exam are $0.69/hour (Level I), $1.00/hour (Level II), or $1.32/hour (Level III).
- Certification Pay: $0.813 per hour based on scheduled work week hours for each qualified certification up to a maximum of five (5) certifications.
- Evening Shift Differential: 7.5%
- Night Shift Differential: 15%
- Weekend Shift Differential: $2.00 per hour
- Charge Nurse Premium Pay: $1.00 per hour
- Float Nurse Premium Pay: $2.50 per hour
- Standby Premium Pay: 1/4 of regular hourly wage or Federal minimum wage (whichever is greater)
- Health Care Plan: Per Diem employees may purchase the Ventura County Health Care Plan (VCHCP) at their own expense.
- Holidays: 11 days per year eligible for premium pay at the rate of time and one-half for all hours worked on the holiday.

AGENCY/DEPARTMENT: Health Care Agency - Ventura County Medical Center & Santa Paula Hospital
Per Diem Registered Nurse III is represented by the California Nurses Association (CNA) and is eligible for overtime compensation. Salary placement will be determined according to the current California Nurse's Association (CNA) memorandum of agreement.
The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future Per Diem and Intermittent vacancies within the Pediatric Acute Care Unit. There is currently one (1) Per Diem vacancy.
TENTATIVE SCHEDULE: OPENING DATE: September 11, 2025

Examples Of DutiesDuties may include but are not limited to the following:
- Utilizing nursing process, plans and participates in providing daily patient care in Pediatrics Acute, NICU or PICU;
- Follows prescribed doctors' orders concerning treatments and medications;
- Makes patient observations, records and reports all pertinent information; provides follow-through on judgement;
- Assists doctors in examination and treatment;
- Provides unit organization and is responsible for completion of all delegated and indicated nursing duties by the end of the assigned shift;
- Assists in training, supervision and evaluation of ancillary personnel and in the training of new personnel; and
- Performs other related duties as required.
Typical QualificationsThese are entrance requirements to the exam process and ensure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:
Requires at least five (5) years of experience working with Neonatal/Pediatric population. These employees may be appointed to work on specialized short-term projects such as hospital accreditation or on other projects that require specialized administrative duties and responsibilities.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:- Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.
- Must possess and maintain a current, valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of California, or licensure in another state with California licensure pending.
- Must possess a current, valid Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification by first day of employment and maintain it thereafter.
- Must possess a Pediatrics Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification by first day of employment and maintain it thereafter.
- Must possess APHON Pediatric Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification within six (6) months of hire.
- Must possess a current, valid Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certification within six (6) months of hire.
- Must successfully complete the Health Care Agency Pharmacology examination within three (3) months of employment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of:- neonatal and pediatric patient care;
- the theory, techniques, and practices of professional nursing;
- knowledge of medical terminology and hospital routine and equipment;
- medicines and narcotics.
Working ability to:- plan and organize nursing care;
- train and supervise non-professional staff;
- establish and maintain confidence of patients and staff;
- work effectively in different hospital departments on shifts as required.
