Performs professional and technical work in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting criminal intelligence, law enforcement, and crime data for assigned district to determine crime patterns and trends.

- Reviews crime and arrest reports and uses analytical resources to identify crime trends, and patterns
- Provides investigative leads to detectives and other concerned personnel by searching various public records, web-based internal departmental databases, and external law enforcement databases
- Analyzes qualitative and quantitative crime data
- Performs data entry and retrieval activities; generates statistical reports to project crime patterns/trends; disseminates analytical findings using various computer programs and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software for information mapping; Data retrieval may include Public Records requests
- Respond to crime statistics Public Records requests
- Produces and disseminates a variety of work products including statistical crime reports, crime meeting packets, crime maps, crime summaries, crime bulletins, intelligence reports, crime forecasts, and statistical summaries to various personnel in order to identify patterns and reduce crime.
- Researches and analyzes raw police data from various sources; identifies investigative leads; provides intelligence to the Operations and Investigations Bureau personnel.
- Reviews external emails, BOLOS (be on the lookout), Intelligence and Information Bulletins; maintains liaison with law enforcement agencies; facilitates information and intelligence sharing with other departments
- Creates and maintains confidential informant database and files; disseminates crime analysis information through various communication forms
- Provides support for Patrol District Captain(Commander) and other personnel.
- Maintains files, inspects files and informs supervisor of pertinent changes
- Performs related work as required
JOB REQUIREMENTS, PREFERENCES & WORK ENVIRONMENTAssociates Degree in Criminal Justice or closely related fieldOne (1) year of experience in the collection, analysis and interpretation of police data. Preference Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice or closely related field3 years of experience in collection, analysis and interpretation of police data. Proficiency in language such as SQL for data manipulation and analytics. Proficient in Excel.
As public servants, employees may be required to work immediately before, during, and/or after an emergency. All employees must be available and able to work assigned shifts as determined by their Department Heads. PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The position is generally sedentary. Employees sit most of the time, but may walk or stand for brief periods of time.
The position involves light physical demands, such as exerting up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
