DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Oversees the Repairs/Bypass pump crews’ daily operations. Plans, coordinates, and directs the activities utilizing the INFOR system by generating/closing inspections/work orders. Organize and assign the work of collection system maintenance teams, and monitors work in progress. Maintain time and attendance via KRONOS system. Monitors work assignments for accuracy and adherence to pertinent legal, technical, contractual and procedural guidelines. Gives technical or procedural advice to personnel concerning special or unique problems; Compiles reports and maintains records of services rendered, work performed, procedures completed. Maintains files on maintenance matters and reports compliance with/or progress toward the Division and/or Branch performance measures. Coordinates activities within section, other sections and divisions of the department and cooperates with interested agencies or committees. Maintains current knowledge of technological advances, changes in statutes and impact of long range planning objectives. Analyzes methods and operations and recommends improvements. Assist maintenance manager with annual operating budget. Makes recommendations for capital facilities. Ensures that personnel receive appropriate safety training and supplies. Completes performance appraisals, recommends disciplinary and/or performance counseling as appropriate; ensures consistent application of personnel policies and procedures. Assists in the training and orientation of new Employees/Supervisors. Other duties may include preparing daily routes for repair teams, servicing equipment, ordering of material and filing returned parts, tools and equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS May require working in all types of weather and dusty, noisy environments. Some physical exertion such as climbing ladders and lifting objects up to 40 pounds. The individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.
This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management Position at the Tier I Level.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc. as might normally be acquired through attainment of a high school diploma or a GED.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Five years of experience closely related to the activities of the section are required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS A Valid Driver’s License and compliance with the City of Houston’s policy on driving.
PREFERENCESPreference will be given to candidates with the following:- 10 or more years of knowledge and/or experience in preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance related to pump repair (i.e. alignment and vibration testing).
- Candidates who have experience supervising employees.
- Candidates that have knowledge of WMS or similar work order management software.
- Applicants with the ability to maintain current knowledge of technical changes that affect activities and initiate appropriate actions pursuant to such changes; in addition to the ability to develop, implement and monitor productivity measures for individuals and groups.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.** GENERAL INFORMATION SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED: None
