    TPWD MISSION

    To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

    MILITARY EMPLOYMENT PREFERENCE:

    PHYSICAL WORK ADDRESS: Law Enforcement Game Warden Training Center, 4363 FM 1047, Hamilton, TX 76531. Applicant will be Required to live within 50 air miles of the GWTC.

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    NOTE: INTERNAL POSTING, OPEN TO TPWD EMPLOYEES ONLY.

    Under the direction of the Game Warden Training Center (GWTC) Captain , the Lieutenant Instructor performs wildlife, conservation, and natural resources enforcement work and is responsible for managing, evaluating and assisting with administrative and operational activities related to conservation and other law enforcement training as assigned at the Texas Game Warden Training Center. Responsibilities include overseeing cadet administration, field in-service training, analysis, and development, presenting training programs and activities and providing guidance and leadership to other personnel. Works under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

    Law Enforcement Duties:

    Serves as an instructor and supervisor in all assigned programs at the Game Warden Training Center including cadet training, in-service training for field officers, statewide health and fitness programs and other programs, as assigned. Provides remedial instruction, guidance and career counseling to cadets during Academy training sessions. Ensures officer compliance regarding training certification requirements. Patrols land areas and public waters when assigned. Takes enforcement action when law violations are observed. May function as an Emergency Management Liaison with the Texas Department of Public Safety/TDEM and staff the Emergency Operations Center as requested. Assists with development, coordination and preparation of the training curriculum for cadets and in-service training for all TPWD field officers. Updates curriculum to meet current standards and lessons objectives as directed by TCOLE. Confers with local law enforcement, court officers, and state officials concerning department activities.

    Plans, organizes and coordinates cadet and field training events, including agendas, learning objectives, travel and other logistics. Coordinates and execute procurement processes for training center and trainee needed equipment.

    Supervisory Duties:

    Supervises cadet activities during academy training; reviews reports, computer databases and other paperwork for accuracy and completeness. Prepares and submits performance plans and evaluations of Cadets. Conducts investigations into complaints from the cadets or the public. Supervises field In-service training and enforcement related activities including Border Security initiatives.

    Marginal Job Duties:

    May be required to perform law enforcement recruitment duties to include attendance at career fairs and/or representation at community events. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with Agency, Division and Department rules, regulations, and procedures.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree.

    Graduation from the Texas Game Warden Training Academy.

    Experience:

    Six (6) years of experience as a Texas Game Warden from the date of graduation from the Game Warden Training Academy.

    Licensure:

    Commissioned as a Texas Game Warden by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

    Must possess a current license as a peace officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).

    Must possess a valid class "C" or higher Texas Driver's License.

    Must possess a Basic TCOLE Instructor Certification.

    NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon maintaining required licenses and certifications.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to Law Enforcement.

    Knowledge of the Texas Disaster Plan, including TPWD and regional responsibilities during a disaster.

    Knowledge of adult learning theories and their application in both field and classroom settings.

    Skill in oral and written communication.

    Skill in using Microsoft Office Suite, Virtual meeting platforms (MS Teams, Zoom, Webex, etc.) and/or Adobe products.

    Skill in identifying, developing, and delivering training needs in various forms to include updating curriculum.

    Skill in actively recruiting qualified applicants through education of the duties and responsibilities of a Texas Game Warden.

    Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures to staff and the public.

    Ability to interpret and apply state/federal statutes, laws, regulations and provisions of TPWD Code, Texas Penal Code and Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.

    Ability to plan, organize and coordinate meetings, including agendas and logistical support.

    Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information.

    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with applicants, employees, and the public.

    Ability to communicate effectively.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Required to work 8 hours per day, 5 days per week.
    Required, as necessary or directed, to work overtime, holidays, weekends, and hours other than regularly scheduled with supervisor approval.
    Required to operate a state vehicle.
    Required to live within 50 air miles of the GWTC
    Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays.
    Required to conform to dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures.
    Required to follow non-smoking policy in all state buildings and vehicles.
