    Job Summary

    Under the general direction of the Associate Vice President for Faculty Affairs, this position is responsible for supervising Faculty Affairs staff members and overseeing the administration of Faculty Affairs processes and procedures for Unit 3, Unit 11, and Academic Administrators (MPP), including: recruitment, appointments, compensation, evaluations, separations, retirements, and faculty additional employment. Ensures compliance with Collective Bargaining Agreement and all CSU and campus policies and procedures. This position independently plans, researches, implements, and provides solutions for Faculty Affairs business practices. Serves as a primary liaison in Faculty Affairs for the Chancellor’s Office, colleges, and departments on issues related to compensation, personnel processes, practices, and campus policies and procedures. Delivers workshops and training.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Employment and Compensation Management - Manages and oversees all processes and timelines for Faculty Affairs to ensure compliance with CSU and campus established policies and procedures for recruitment, appointments, compensation, evaluations, separations, retirements, and additional employment for Unit 3, Unit 11, and Academic Administrators (MPP).
    • Supervision of Faculty Affairs Staff - Manages and oversees support staff which consists of nine full-time staff members. Provides appropriate assignments, redistributes workload, if needed, and evaluates performance and goal setting.
    • Collaboration with Academic Employee Relations - Works closely with the Employee Relations Manager, Employee Relations staff, and union representatives on issues related to academic employee relations and leaves of absence to ensure that all aspects related to employment status and compensation are addressed.
    • Research and Data Requests - Responds to inquiries and requests for data regarding all faculty and academic administrators, which involves extensive research and interpretation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Consults with the Chancellor’s Office as needed. Acts as the chief resource for Faculty Affairs staff, deans, associate deans, department chairs, and administrative services managers concerning questions related to faculty employment at the university.
    • Workshops and Training - Responsible for delivery of training workshops for faculty employment and compensation issues, recruitment, evaluations, use of technology systems, convening meeting of administrator searches, and faculty retirement.


    Knowledge Skills and Abilities

    The ideal candidate brings thorough knowledge of CSU Faculty Affairs policies and procedures, along with a strong understanding of collective bargaining agreements and their implementation. They demonstrate outstanding leadership and supervisory skills, effectively managing staff and setting priorities to meet individual and departmental goals. With the ability to represent Academic Affairs across university units, they leverage technology, including PeopleSoft HR, to streamline operations and enhance performance. Their proactive approach to problem-solving, combined with strong analytical and organizational skills, enables them to anticipate challenges, develop sound policies, and make data-driven recommendations in high-impact, sensitive environments.

    Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

    Education and Experience

    Advanced degree from an accredited university in human resources management, public administration, business administration, organizational planning/policy or related field. Seven to ten years of progressively responsible experience in human resources management in an organization with complex HR systems and unionized setting. Preferred experience with overseeing Faculty Affairs processes for faculty and staff in a public institution of higher education or a government agency. Minimum of five years management experience required.

    Physical Summary

    • Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

    CSU MPP Compensation Summary Range: The MPP Comp Summary Range for this position is $8,742 - $13,113 per month.

    Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

    Additional Information

    The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.

    A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment.
